Hello everyone, I need your advice on my situation.
I graduated as an RN in december 2010 and passed my board in March 2011, I applied to so many places, and one SNF that applied to on March 6th, 2011 interviewed me on the spot but she didn't have any opening available then, she said she will keep my application and give me a call when something opens up, I sent her a thank you letter 2 days after my first interview. on the time of the interview, I just found that the day before that I am 10 weeks pregnant, and I was going to tell the DON if she called me for second interview, I don't like to cheat or lie especially you can't hide pregnancy forever, eventually my belly will pop out and become obvious to everyone that I am pregnant and I don't want the DON to think that I was decietful.
This morning, the DON called my house and left a message that something opens up and she will like me to come for a 2nd interview if I am still interested. Now that I am 26 wks pregnant and my belly really showing, I don't know what to do? Should I call her back and explained to her that I am really interested in the job but I am pregnant? or should I just go and thank her for the opportunity and let her decide if she will hire me even with my big belly?
What do you guys think?
any input or advice will be greatly appreciated.
sorry for the long post.

Pregnant doesn't mean incapacitated, if it's a healthy pregnancy. You'll have to exercise good judgement, but there's no reason not to go to the interview, and even see if she'll let you do your orientation, to start work proper after the baby's born.
Either way, congratulations, best of luck, and God bless.

Unless you don't want the job, go to the interview the exact same way you would if you weren't pregnant. It shouldn't make a difference in your mind. Pregnancy isn't a disease or disability, and they can't legally discriminate against someone who is pregnant.

Hello,
As NurseKitten and the other posters suggested, if you have a good feeling about this, go right on ahead. I am currently 34 weeks pregnant and took my chance going on an interview last week for a night position on a labor and delivery unit. I was hesitant at first because I figured they would pass me by, but I had a feeling that I should not pass up this opportunity.
I interviewed with the recruiter, nurse manager, head nurse, and a staff nurse on L&D unit and when the time came for them to ask me when I could start work, I was honest. I explained that I was expecting within the next 6 weeks and that I wanted to spend at least 8 weeks at home with my baby before heading off to work. They sent me to the waiting room to complete an application while they discussed the interview/me. When I was called back, the recruiter told me that I was hired and that I could start orientation in mid September (they have orientation every other month - July, September, etc). I was thrilled that they were willing to wait. The recruiter explained that they all thought I was a strong candidate worth waiting for and that I should go home and enjoy my last weeks of pregnancy and my new baby.
Honesty is the best policy and if you are like me, it's very obvious I am pregnant and would have been foolish not to be open about it when the question came up about my availability. I am glad I went ahead with the interview and my gut feeling not to pass up this opportunity.
No matter what happens, best of luck with the remainder of your pregnancy, your new baby, and the interview. Let us know how things turn out. :)
All my best,
LilNurse

Lilnurse0803, your story is very inspiring, I think I am going to set an appointment for second interview, and see what will happen, if they are willing to wait for me, it will be great, if not I am not going to give up searching for job until I land my dream job (OR/ER/ICU CRTICAL CARE).
JUST CURIOUS, did you start your first job out of school in L&D where you have your 2 years experience or did you start in another field then switch to L&D?
Thank you for your support.
Thanks to everybody who put an insight on my situation, I really appreciate your advice, this is a great site for support, thanks a million.

WHAT????????????????
A healthy pregnancy doesn't exclude anyone from a job. I think you should schedule the second interview and it will be obvious that you are expecting....explain that your want this position and will return to work afer the baby is born but you are still the best canidate for this position........Lilnurse is the perfect example of why you should persue this position....Good luck and congrats on you new baby to come!!!!!!
RI Nurse,
I did get a job in a teaching hospital on a L&D unit as a new graduate. I am blessed to have received such an opportunity knowing how competitive this field is and how many places would not give a new graduate such a position without prior nursing experience.
I have been away from nursing, working in an insurance company, for the last couple of years but am blessed to have the opportunity to come back to my first love. I had to leave because of some family issues and could only return when the economy took a nasty dive. This left me with no option (needed full-time with benefits) but to get a full-time position so that I could support myself. Not one day has gone by that I don't think about coming back, however, having a baby 2 years ago and then expecting another put that on hold until now. This is my time to come back and pick up where I left off.
I wish you the very best and let us know how things go with your second interview.

Think you should take advanage of the opportunity. There is a girl that got hired at my job 6 months prego, did 3 months of orientation, then 9 months prego, delivered her baby, now on maternity leave for a few weeks, when she comes back shell be on her own for the first time. A baby didnt stop her...dont let it stop you, what is meant for you, you will have...one way or another Creative Scholar-
Thank you creative scholar, your message is very encouraging, I will go for the interview and see what happen.:)
