NCLEX Test

Published

Hi everyone I am going August 10th at 11:00 to take my test I have studied some of the web sites that were suggested on the site and I have a CD with nothing but test questions I have done most of the 998 questions! Any ohter advice for this very nervous test taker?:uhoh3:

I just took my test on Thursday and I passed. Relax the day before your test and do not study. I put my headphones on and walked around the zoo all day. I treated myself to steak and lobster, got a hotel room and swam in the pool and hottub. When it's time for the test, relax, take a few deep breaths, and go with your gut.

I just graduated a few weeks ago. I'm preparing to take the NCLEX-PN right now. How long did you study? Did you pull your notes on some major drugs? Did you go back to your weak chapters? Also, I am currently using the questions in the Exam Cram book, and just re-mediating on the questions I am getting wrong. When I finish with this one and feel more comfortable with cardiac and these stupid culture questions I'm gonna hit about 1000 or so questions from a Lippincott review book. How was the test as far as lab values and disorders go? I'll be the first one to take it outta my graduating class of 9! I'm getting a lil nervous!

I learned all the major lab values. I did not go back thru my old notes though. I was mostly worried about the stuff I didn't learn in school, so I concentrated on that. I went thru about 3,000 questions and rationale. But the questions are so out of left field, it's mostly using common sense. ABC's, Maslow, delegating. Remove the answers you know are wrong. Look at whats left and choose the best. Regardless, I think it's the luck of the draw. Good luck!

Thanks! I've refreshed my memory for stuff like lithium and dig and stuff like that, and of course common lab values. I'm afraid to over study because some of the rationales in the books I'm using suck! I'm trying to stick with what I learned in school. We've had a 100% passing rate for the past 3 years... so I don't want to talk myself out of the correct answers. I'm gonna look back over the different types of insulins. Did anyone get some questions on that kinda stuff? Also, my med-surg book is from 05.. and some of the FHR stuff has changed a lil. Our peds book says 110-160bpm is perfect, but the exam cram book says 120-160 and 110 is a sign of fetal distress... I'm worried to death that on boards I'm gonna end up with questions like that and I'll be unsure of what reference to go by. :uhoh21:

I was worried about that too. Every book is different as far as whats normal. And even some doctors I talked to had their own ideas on whats "normal". I didn't get any questions on lab values or normals, it was all scenrios and what's priority. I had one insulin question and it was for peak time. I still think that the test is bogus, it's so random that it's just luck. Most of the time you can figure out the answer even if you have no idea what their talking about by removing the wrong answers. I feel that I got super lucky with the questions that I did get. Only 5 meds and 2 calculations. 2 check all that apply and one click and drag. If you study a little every day until your test, you'll do fine.

No real advice for you, but want to send you good vibes :)

I am taking my exam on Wed Aug 8 and feel the same way as you do. I have been doing this over and over and still feel like I am missing something.

Good luck!!!!

Thanks, that's good to know. The only insulins that I know alot about are regular and NPH. I'm alright with med questions, I guess I'm just afraid they are gonna be some wild med that I've never heard of and can't figure out the ending of the generic name. I've been reviewing the big ones. I'm ok with calculations, I was good in pharm.

I'm waiting on the Florida department of health to hurry up and get my transcripts to the right floor. Apparently their mail room is as large as the state. They are taking forever! It will prob be the end of the week before I see my ATT in my email box.

I'm taking my NCLEX on Aug 8 @ 11:45 too!!! One of my instructors told us that if we get a question that we absolutely have no clue as to what the answer is, to pick the answer that is the longest. I hope it works, GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!! May the luck be with you!!:monkeydance:

I wish you two good-luck and am sending you positive energy. I take my NCLEX on August 15th and I've finished Saunders Comprehensive Review book and CD. Now I'm working on the Saunders Q&A CD. Is there such a thing as studying too much for the NCLEX?

I'll be honest with you guys, I waited until the week or two before my NCLEX to really dig down and study. I had such a stressful year this past year which included my mother passing away in November, my mother in law living with us for the entire spring semester, and these are only a few things. :smackingf

I quit my job on June 1st to take a breath, before looking for a job as a graduate nurse and getting back into school this fall towards my ADN. Then, I was hired as a graduate nurse in a local HC and Rehab LTC facility in July.:specs:

Anyway, the one to two weeks prior to me taking my NCLEX last week I simply read through a few choice chapters in Saunders review guide on test taking strategies/categories and then I just kept quizzing myself randomly on the CDs and the study questions in the books. I only spent an hour or less a day on this and the weekend before my exam, I began to freak out when I saw how many months and hours and questions other people had said they did on studying for the NCLEX.

I began to cram 48 hours before the exam, but everytime I tried, I fell asleep. I finally had to tell myself, Nikki, rely on your schooling. It got you this far. Rely on your own common sense and knowledge and relax. I went to bed midnight before my exam (which was 3pm the next day) and didn't think again about studying.

I kept a positive attitude and visualized myself relaxed and taking the test and then visualized receiving the "pass" score.

It worked for me. After receiving my "pass" score 2 days later, I went to the website of the Dept. of Reg. and Lic. and found my name under the profession "Licensed Practical Nurse".:nurse:

Good luck to all of you, and trust in yourselves!:studyowl:
