Nclex Meds

Hey Guys I would like to know if the meds on the nclex are by brand names or generic or both names will be in the question ? ? Im trying to study pharm and I just wanted to know will both generic and brand names be given in the question ? should I foucus on generic or brand or learn both?:heartbeat

I took NCLEX-PN back in 2005, so my memory is fuzzy.

However, I can recall being asked about Xanax and Catapres, which are both brand names of alprazolam and clonidine. The question might have listed both names, but I really don't remember.

Actually, I remember having some meds with both generic and brand name and some with just brand name. I would study broad for meds and the more popular meds. For instance, know your cardiac classes (beta-blockers, Ace, etc), your heparins, bronchodilators, etc. You may get meds you have never heard of too! Good Luck!

is this the Kaplan version? Will it really help. I suck at Pharm I scored bad in my Kaplan Diagnostic and Readiness in the Pharm section.

I made really low scored on the pharm part too and passed. My suggestion is know the commercials on tv. YAY FOR TV (it saved my butt on one question.) Also know general drug info (beta blockers, etc) I got a mixed bag. On one I got the generic name and on the one that tv saved me, it was the brand name. (I WILL NEVER FORGET YOU! THANKS TV!!)

The Nclex-RN Exam Medication in a Box has 300 flashcards of medications commonly seen on the exam. i always carry a couple of cards with me and just review cos i am terrible with pharmacology too.

The original poster wanted to know if they should study the brand name AND the generic name or if knowing just one would suffice but it seems the thread has gotten off topic. All of my review CDs/books list both the brand and generic names in practice questions. Can someone who recently took the NCLEX let us know if both are listed on that exam?

It may be less work to know only one name, but it may help when your working to know both, since different people will call them by either name.

You are responsible for knowing both names, you can be given either on the exam.

And as the above poster has mentioned, lets get back to the topic that was being discussed and specifically only that or it makes it hard for others to follow or something to get missed.
