Nclex after Kaplan

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

I'm getting ready to take Nclex...for the 3rd time. I passed the nursing program with good grades, never failing a class. Unfortunately, this test has me stumped. I'm so close but I can't jump this last hurdle!! So I took Kaplan's Nclex class. That was 2 months ago, I graduated about 7 months ago. How are people's results on Nclex after Kaplan? I am getting 50's-60's on all the review tests and Qbank quizzes. Is that good enough? I do 100-200 questions every day or other day casually and not cramming. What do you think?

Thanks

I've also saved QT6 and 7 for the mon and tues before the test. I test wednesday. I figure the QT7 would be a nice review I can do all day on Tuesday, then relax in the afternoon/evening.

hi Newbomb,

I took the Kaplan review course and thought it was the best money I spent. I felt more confident going into the NCLEX exam. I was working at a summer camp while trying to study so I had limited time (which was not too smart) BUT with the Kaplan online questions I feel it made a difference. 60 is not a bad score keep up w/ all the questions, and watch the videos on how to naswer the questions, it makes sense and is very helpful. Take the break during the NCLEX and keep telling yourself "you know this, you can do this" Good luck, it is the toughest part of nursing the big test.

As long as you keep on trying there will come a time when you pass the test. Do not give up.

I completely agree with lilred9454, the Kaplan course is the best money spent.

i had the nursing knowledge but that is not enough, it's the critically thinking part that is key to passing this exam and that is what Kaplan teaches you. The 5 days classroom course is excellent. I planned everything very carefully and read all the study materials before the course which I think helped. I was practicising the Qbank before the 5 day course any only getting around 50% after the 5 day course and having grasped a better understanding of the critically thinking strategy (the Decision Tree) my marks started going up in to the mid 60's-70. I am due to sit the NCLEX this Friday and although I am petrified, I do feel that the Kaplan course has really prepared me for what is to come.

I think I read somewhere that there is a significantly higher pass rate for nurses who take the Kaplan NCLEX course before sitting the exam.

Hope that helps :)

Your in good standing if your grades are between 60-70% ... and the amount of questions your doing is good too, I did about 100q's/day and 200q's/day 2 weeks prior to my exam. I don't think I would've passed the first time if I didn't take kaplan. It really gives you an idea what your weakest and your strongest points, so you know what to work on. Good Luck and keep doing your questions!!:)

My new job paid for me to take Kaplan. I did the online course and felt it was very helpful. The decision tree is really important IMHO. I only used Kaplan to review and my last readiness test was 65%. Computer shut off at 75 and I passed. I wrote down my labs and some terms I wanted to remember and looked at them real quick before the test.

I think if you continue to do 100 questions, know your labs, review the decision tree and look up what you don't know, you will do fine. Good luck and let us know how it goes. :)

When are you going to sit for the exam?

same as u, i graduated with good grades. never failed any subjects.

i enrolled in kaplan complete. for me it was good. it provided me things i did not learn from school. the class was great esp if you have good instructor and ur class was really participating.

ddnt get to finish my qbank only 60 done, and my average was 52%.

finished all the qtrainers, read all the books they provided.

i also studied prioritization, delegation and assignments by Lacharity.

and yesterday was my moment, i sat for the exam.

i prepared myself that nclex was gonna be hard.. but yesterday found out it was the hardest exam ever. i dont even know if theres an exam harder than that. (sorry im not trying to discourage you,)

the questions were ok, i knew what it was talking about. but the choices were the ones who got my mind buggling!

i sat for almost 6 hours.. and finished 265. im still waiting for my results, knowing the state where i took doesnt participate in quick results.

so here i am waiting, trying to life my hopes up that alot had passed with 265 qs, im hoping and praying ill be one of them.

try to do mre questions, make sure u read EACH of the rationales, memorize your labs, prioritization was complex.. the solving (for MEDS and IVs was not simple. spent alot of time converting stuff). i got alot of SATAS and tons of MEDS.

GOOD LUCK ON YOUR EXAM.. ill be crossing my fingers for you.

and i hope after how many days, i could give u advise as an RN..

i also have the same average kaplan scores. im very scared because i feel like it's really low.

hi everyone who had taken kaplan and pass. my scores on qbank r low 40-68%. QT's 40s-50's. i just dont know what to do now.. will be taking on march 18 2010..any advice? thanks in advance

dreamgoldrn

we are on the same boat. i finished my qbanks questions with only 54%!!! right now i am just going over it again and reviewing the rationales. some questions is very familiar to me so im getting 70s to 80s percent now. i dont know if that would help me. i am very scared to take the exam. im taking mine on the 23rd of march.

Kalop,

I don't think you should do over the questions that you already answered. You might have memorized the answers and it won't give you a true picture of where you are at. If you need more practice, try Learning Extension. You can sign up for 3 weeks of their qbank and they give good rationales.

DreamgoalRN - Review the content on areas you didn't do well in. Practice the decision tree and practice questions everyday is key I think.

I take my exam on March 18 - so I can't tell you if my advice works or not.
