Nclex help

I graduated in August and I tested in October I studied but not the way I should've and I failed my first time. I am wanting to retest but dont know what I should study. Anyone have any suggestions it would be greatly appreciated. I was debating on whether or not to purchase the exam cram and the ati virtual review.

Thank you in advance

When I took the NCLEX 4 years ago I used the Exam Cram books.

Your thread's been moved to the NCLEX forum.

HOW are you on your content? Can you recognize what is normal and abnormal with some disease process? Maybe need a refresher in pathophysio?

Once you have your content down, you can move on to answering high level priority questions (who to see first).

Its important you keep practicing questions. I would advise you to get UWORLD. They have great rationales and the most similar to nclex high level questions. Keep practicing select all the apply questions. Read all rationales and know what is expected vs unexpected when it comes to medication s/e and disease process.

I would advise you to look over infection control protocols. Safety, and psychosocial adaptations and etc. Practice delegations question by using PDA by la charity.

Practice med surg and fundamental questions from uworld and dont give up. Practice makes perfect

Practice questions and remediate!! I cannot stress his enough. The content will come with answering a variety of questions.

What refresher course would you recommend because I feel like I have forgot some things. Also thanks for the information I'll be checking out uworld.

Would Hurst help as a refresher course?

I liked using Hurst and Saunders for content. I recommend using Kaplan, Lippincott, and LaCharity for questions. I'm not familiar with UWorld but I hear good things about it.

Would Hurst help as a refresher course?

Hurst is great for content review. I'd also recommend Uworld along with LaCharity for questions.

Hi,

I'm sorry you didn't pass but no fear. You can do it the second time around. I suggest Hurst or Saunders or both for content, however do not focus too, too much on content. Maybe spend a couple days or so for content. It is more important that you focus on practicing NCLEX-style questions! The way I see it is that the NCLEX tests you on how to test, with a foundation of nursing knowledge. When it comes to NCLEX-style questions, I suggest Kaplan. I have heard UWorld is really helpful if you want an alternative and equivalent to Kaplan. If you can go to your local library, they might have the Kaplan strategy book. That's how I studied. Never bought a single book! I do not suggest ATI. I thought the questions were good and at times difficult but it was not worded NCLEX-style. It was very much content-based, so do not waste your money on it. As many others said, just keep practicing questions. Slowly build on questions day by day and you'll start to realize that the knowledge and ease of answering the questions becomes easier and you'll get adapted to how the NCLEX words their questions. Believe in yourself. Good luck :)

Thank you'll for the help and insight. I just purchased uworld and hurst so hopefully they help. Im submitting my application to the bon today and I'm a little nervous about retesting. I do have one more question I was thinking about studying for 3-4 hrs a day for 30-45 days maybe two on the hurst and 2 on uworld would you'll say that's enough?

I think that's more than enough. Don't over study. It's in there (your brain :)). Questions and referencing is all you should be doing to bring it out of hibernation. When in doubt, go back to the basics! A&P, ABC's, and your common sense will be your friend when you don't know a question. Very happy that you are already organized and focused on taking the test again. Don't give up and keep us posted! Good luck and God bless!
