Nc 5....

Published

IS DRIVING ME INSANE! I am so tired of studying for this exam. I read the TCN book, now I am going back through to do the recommended reading (probably backwards, I know!). It's taking me FOREVER! I'm trying to be a good doobie and use the content guide. I think these things are horrible! Am I the only one that doesn't understand how to use them? I'm scheduled to take this exam on Monday because there are of course no other convenient testing times for like a month! I go back to work on Tuesday, so I'd really like to be done with this thing before that starts.

Regulate this, regulate that....Why does the human body have to be so complicated!

Where are the 3 shots of Tequila? I could use some of that in this thread as well!

Try to breathe! I just had to retake this exam (HD2) and it wasn't so bad. Draw a line down the center of a piece of paper and write one disease/disorder on one side and write it's opposite on the other side. Know diets, teaching, meds, electrolytes, s/s for each and move on to the next. It really helped me to come up with people I know who I think have a certain condition too. I think the only thing that saved me with this exam was organization and pairing disorders together- otherwise it seems like more than there is. As far as the mental disorders go, I did similar things.. I paired disorders by "type". Good luck!

I'm going to take a practice test tonight.. I gave up on all the reading! I do that all the time.. I spent hours making articulate notes, and then I never look at them again! I think part of it the writing crap out...makes it stick in my head or something. I am going to focus on study group 101's notes.. and then take a test tonight. Hopefully I nail the regulatory portion!

The only thing I did with the study guides was take Post-it notes and stick them into the chapters I needed to read.

You may have four shots, if you think that will help.

I like to write things out (or type them out) as well. It forces my eyes to look at the material and helps me out with it.

Take the practice test and tell us how you did!

Well, no shots for me this weekend! I just took a practice test and got a 56! The worse score I think I've ever received! Pretty much bombed the entire thing through out! That's the worst. Why can't it be one area for me? I read some posts on the EPN and I guess it's a typical score for form A.

I'm worried about the psych. I ordered the dang psych book from half.com right before I started studying for this darn thing. Today I get a message that the seller saying "Sorry, didn't realize you bought this book." and they refunded my money! Guess I'm off to the library to find a stupid book!

As always, thanks for the support and encouragement!

NC 5 was the only exam I had to take twice. The second time I got an A. Separate the material by topic and study in 15 minute increments. This is the only way I can retain.

Study Endocrine for 15 minutes, take a break, study Psyche for 15 minutes, etc.

Hope this helps.

Yup, exnavygirl, that's what I'm going to have to do! I used to do that all the time in LPN school and did it with NC 3,4. My husband thinks I'm crazy when I do that.. but he doesn't have ADD like I do.

At least you know where you stand--and just one shot may not be so bad, right? Maybe a shot of Boone's Farm...

For the psych nursing part I used Straight A's in Psychiatric Nursing (or a title something to that effect). I think I would have been overwhelmed to read a textbook to cover all the material. I had a decent handle on psych stuff already. For the hepatic/renal stuff, I already had a pretty darned good handle on it from my exposure in my job to it, so I used the Saunders NCLEX-RN review book to read up on the nursing side of it.

You'll definitely do okay. :) That practice exam score wasn't that bad.

Stay focused, I have faith in you, forget about NC6 and knock NC5 out of the park. I will be trying to get some studying done while I'm away, I rescheduled my exam for September 11. Hopefully life will be halfway normal by then. Good luck.

Oh, I give you permission to have 2 shots on Friday, one for you and one for me, but that is it. Saturday is back to the books!

Have I mentioned lately how great this site is for a support system? Especially since the majority of my posts are me in a state of panic and freaking out!

Seriously, thanks everyone! And $86 later, I have bought Saunder's COMPREHENSIVE NCLEX review and a mental health nursing reference guide.

I may try to push the test back to Wednesday. No good appointment times locally and I'm already driving 45 mins to another city on Monday. In Michigan, if the roads aren't bad due to snow, they're closed due to road construction , so I hope it's literally a 45 min drive and that's it!

Do you have a good library nearby? They have a ton of free resources that can help clarify things. I ended up getting an A on this test but when you look at the % breakdown on the back, you could tell there was a gigantic grading curve :-)

Make sure you answer the question it's asking.. I almost got fooled on some. Good luck!
