My maternal grandfather was a coffee aficionado.  He was known for always having 1-2 coffee thermos with him--along with a box of donuts in his trunk at family events.

A French press works best with coffee of a coorificer grind than does a drip brew coffee filter, about the consistency of kosher salt.    Ideal hot water temp  is 199–205 °F  (best heated from a tea kettle rather than microwave) with brewing/steeping time about 4 minutes.

Loose tea lovers, like moi, can also use it.  My older Tevana steep pot on last legs--- think I will ask Santa for one.

I use a French press even when camping.

A French Press also makes great cold brew coffee if you want to take the time to make it. It's a process but if you like cold brew it's worth making a batch. The concentrated coffee is good in the fridge for about 2 weeks.
