Hi I am moving to Australia (Brisbane) I need to know what level I would be..... level 1 or 2 and what step/year. I have been qualified for 7 yrs. Also what is the pay rate I can expect (approx). Cheers

You would be a level 1.7/1.8 depending on whether or not you have a BSN. I haven't got the pay rates at the tips of my fingers but if you go to thinknursing.com you will see the advertised goverment hospital jobs - they give you a salary range.

How are FNPs accepted in Aussie land?

Thanks for that :)

Don't have any but then as the others will tell you Queensland is backward:p

(We are sort of the Arkensaw of Australia:chuckle)

LOL. There are some in Australia...somewhere correct?

I don't know about Family nurse practitioners (that's the F in FNP, right?), but there are certainly NP's around. A friend of mine is in the process of becoming an oncology/palliative care NP in NSW.

And Queensland isn't the Arkansas of Australia, Gwenith - Tassie is! (running, ducking and weaving from the Tasmanians).

:rotfl: Thought someone would say that:D

Yes there are some Nurse Practitioners around and QLD is a bit behind in using them but after the Bundaberg Fiasco there is a lot of discussion about introducing more.

I lived there for a few years, and I know Queensland is not backward! It is the nicest state of Australia, relaxed, best weather, and kindest people!

Thanks :uhoh21:

It's Okay Mate - we are used to being kidded by the other states:p

Just because we like our lifestyle a bit more laid - well we like to think that they are jealous of our great weather, beautiful countryside and best beaches in the world - as they say "Where else but Queensland";)

.... Tassie .... *slaps self on wrist* ... nope, I wont even start! :rotfl:

Nurse Practitioners have only just this year become fully recognised as a real qualification or 'position' in Queensland. (1st Jan 2005)

Worth working towards to be out there and taking responsibility legally in caring for the communities along side the doctors.

(Doing the same job that was done previous to the new Queensland Qualification by some Registered Nurses working in remote areas - but now being officially recognised for it.)

Used to be known as a "bush" nurse. (Nothing to do with presidents either!)

My partner did this sort of work in Malaysia some years ago once qualified as a RN under the English hospital based training system. She had the responsibility of a Nurse Practitioner but just as an RN! 3,000 to 4,000 potential patients in a bush setting with a doctor calling one or two days a week.

I believe if you have already this Quaification you would love to come to Queensland and enjoy the incredible lifestyle.

Contact me if you like.
