  1. Hi, thanks for all the comments. Gompers, I am already on Metformin, and it's not helping so far! I excercise regularly but find it more difficult due to all the weight i carry. I also work 4 days a week on a very busy orthopaedic ward! So its not like I sit in an office! I also have looked at our Doctors in New Zealand and have done a lot of looking into it here, and He seems to be the best (and of course the furtherest away!!) . For those who wanted to know the amount of weight I have got to loose it is about 60 - 70 kg (unsure in pounds, sorry). Cheers all :roll
  2. Thanks for the advice to you both. I have tried hard and often to loose weight. I have tried everything from jenny craig, weight watches to the fruit diet, Atkins diet, nothing works. I have polycystic ovaries also which makes it a little harder. My main reason to loose weight is not for the look, but for health, and to see my children grow! At this rate, I will be dead before they are in there 20's! Thanks
  3. Hi, I am a mum, wife, nurse and obese! I am looking into a gastric bypass, they cost enough!!! But I think it will be worth it. Any comments??
  4. Dont for get to keep your feet moving in the first 24 hrs, to keep away the DVT's! Also icepacks are great! I know in our ward we dont access icepacks enough but they really do make a difference. Also just remember it can take up to 18 mths to get the knee back to normal (size and strength!) Take care and be kind to the busy ortho nurses (hehehe)
  5. I lived there for a few years, and I know Queensland is not backward! It is the nicest state of Australia, relaxed, best weather, and kindest people! Thanks :uhoh21:
  6. Thanks for that :)
  7. Hi I am moving to Australia (Brisbane) I need to know what level I would be..... level 1 or 2 and what step/year. I have been qualified for 7 yrs. Also what is the pay rate I can expect (approx). Cheers
  8. What is ON Q????
  9. One thing i can say is stick with the main centres: Auckland, Hamilton, Wellington, Christchurch hospitals! You would be bored int he others! I work in a small rural hospital (600 bed) and any too major trauma is transported to Hamilton or Auckland hospitals! So check out the hospitals. The pay in NZ is less, however we are getting a 20% pay increase over the next few years. Depending on who the staff are, who the doctors are, and their relationship is to how much nurses do in ed!! There is a short fall of nurses and definetly in male nurses! Male nurses are welcomed with open arms!! I have not heard of Tonix, but have heard of geneva (as per previous entry). Good luck
  10. They are usually started in PACU and continue on the ward. We do block heights with our epidural patients. If they have full motor block we reduce the epidural to run at a slower rate. Our patients usually mobilize with the epidural, as long as they can feel their feet/legs etc!! We also have the Acute pain team, who if we strike any problems we can contact, they have a RN and an anethestist. All our patients are on paracetamol 4 hourly (except for those with an allergy or CRF). We also use M-Eslon (a slow release morphine tablet) day 1 to assesst with pain management. cheers :)
