is life in the US better than that of the UK? ie weather, affordability, wages lifestyle etc etc. come on all you that have made the leap give us your honest opnion???:D

is it a yeah:yeah: or a neah!!!!!!!!!:crying2:

I feel life is soooooooo much better! I go over there alot for long periods of time, lived over there for 6 months once and weather and everything (I find) is fantastic! My sister has been over there for 10 years and I think she will agree, her 2 sons (born over there) have everything they possibly could want, they could have never have that here in the UK!

I love USA so much more than UK and I am counting down the days till I go! The only thing I will be missing when I go there is friends and family!

Roll on greencard!!!

hi d4e5f6

you say your sister is a nurse? how does she like it?

Hello!

Yes she is a nurse. She loves everything but the nursing in the states! The doctors are horrible, and you have a lot more responsibilty. I did 4 weeks as a student nurse in the hospital that she works in, and I thought it was very good! Only 4-6 patients per night, and lots of staff and the patients all have their own private en suites and cable TV, and theres a drugs machine which pops out the medication for you! I thought it was much better than the madhouse NHS here, where everyday I curse I will quit! Lol!!

Bye for now, off to a health farm, need to relax!!!

I don't think there's a definite yeah or neah on this one, it's ultimately down to personal issues.......

weather.....yeah, better than UK

affordability....not as inexpensive as I first thought, but then again, it's all relative, depends on the lifestyle you lead

wages....mine are about the same as I earned in the UK

There are still stresses and strains of everyday life to face here, they are just "different" ones.

At the end of the day, home is where the heart is, no amount of sea and sunshine makes up for leaving loved ones behind. I used to kid myself I could just hop on a plane and be back in the UK in 8 hours if necessary....in reality, it's not that simple. My rose tinted glasses have been packed away :o

i suppose it depends on what you are leaving behind and whether you will miss these things or not

personally i dont think there is much keeping me here, ive no close family and the friends i have are not the ones that i spend every 5 minutes with

i have one friend who i will miss very much but msn is great for chatting as is skype

my other close friend has just emmigrated to new zealand so i am away from him anyway, i cant believe he made it to the usa before i did, even though it was just a stop over in LA!

at the moment the weather is really yuk here there is talk of interest rates going up, immigration worries and everyone appears to be moaning

life is what you make it, the phrase same sh** different country springs to mind, if you are unhappy and have issues in the uk they are not going to go away by moving

however if its the weather thats getting you down the usa may be a good move lol!!

As human beings we are strange before you get here you imagine you havent got anything back home-I honestly believed Life was s**t in the Uk I couldnt wait to get on that plane and get here.

Reality is very different I am not saying it is bad because it isnt but you do miss things from home. You miss your comfort zone of knowing where to go how to do it and who to ask-and if you dont get what you want you know how to complain. You do miss the food-but you find subsitutes eventually I still miss the bread.

Now we all know that I had a bad run of things but I am now on the right road, things are looking up and I am not homesick at the moment. I have a future and I am going to make the most of it but life is hard here, and you have no where to run because you cant bleed dry the few friends you have in this country it aint fair.

Here you havent a clue where to go and how to act when silly little things happen-for example Taxes OMG what a minefield I havent a clue.

Yesterday I discovered my car hadnt been insured for 7 months, because the last four numbers of the VIN number on the car insurance didnt match. So girls check you VIN number on your insurances docs-we sorted it because now we are living the American way and we know what to do when.

Be prepared for a hard 1st year and you wont go wrong. Also be prepared for one of you as a couple not to settle here. Just be supportive in my relationship it was me

In my Friends it was her husband and her 30 year marriage was in danger they moved and it is sorted.

Another husband carried his passport for a year and passed the airport daily-they are both RNs took 2 years to settle. Ok now

You miss your own people and we should never be afraid of saying that we are proud to be English, Scottish, Welsh or Irish because no other nation in the world is ashamed to say they are proud of where they came from.

I am proud now to be living as an English woman in the USA.

Kay, I remember you said you thought I was better prepared than most for this journey, and you were right at the time. I had a home here ready to come to, a job I'd chosen and found for myself, been here dozens of times over the years so felt I knew exactly what I was getting in to. But there's something you can't put into words.....that feeling of isolation from all you are familiar with. I think you are right, the first year is tough, dh has to remind me every day life back home was no bed of roses, but we forget don't we?

(See Kay...I told you I'd depress everyone :( )
