I find it helpful that I had A&P 1 before I signed up for Micro. Micro is different than A&P in that it doesn't require as many study hours as A&P and there is not as much memorization. I find the micro lab difficult and demanding. The lecture part is not that bad. Regardless, Micro is another class that takes serious effort or you won't make a good grade. It all depends on the teacher, too. Even though I have an excellent teacher, her weekly lab quizzes and lecture tests are not easy and quite challenging. I also find it helpful that I had my Chem classes, in lab we deal with alot of Biochemical reactions and it is better to have some knowledge prior to signing up. It just would make things a little easier.

Good luck. ;)

Microbiology varies greatly depending on your class / teacher. At my school micro is far more difficult than A&P I or II. It is a ton of memorization and very detail oriented.

Personally I find it a ton more interesting than A&P (and I love A&P!) but definitely requires more hours to get all the info down than A&P has required for me.

Goodluck with it, though! :)

I took Microbiology a while ago and I have to take it again this Summer. I thought Microbiology was less challenging than Anatomy although I enjoy Anatomy alot more. As far as the lab goes, microbiology lab was less intense, you just have to follow deirection. The key is to study hard in both classes because you are going to learn new terms that you may not be familiar with. Just make sure you have a good lab partner. Good luck to you.

Jeeeez these prereqs are killing me already :uhoh21:

so would you all recommend taking an intro chemistry class before taking micro ???

I want to have good grades YES but I also want to get it OVER with...

Hi Julia!

I am in the same boat as you!!! I am signed up to take A&P I this summer. It is a 10 week course and it is online. What school are you going through?

A lot of people on this fourm has said to take A&P first. Who knows!!!:)

Hi, I go to SPC (St. Petersburg College) and you ? Do you live in FL?

Jeeeez these prereqs are killing me already :uhoh21:

Intro to Chem is a requirement for ADN and BSN programs here in SA.

Do you have a degree plan? Don't you have to take Chemistry classes as part of your prerequisites? If yes, I'd start with Chem....microlab is a little more than following directions as someone here mentioned, you need to know what you are doing. You will meet something chemistry related at every corner in these science classes.

But maybe I am just stupid :uhoh3:

I have found Micro to be much more difficult that A&P... chemistry is definitley needed before you can take it, it's a pre-req for the class normally... the lecture isn't too bad, but the lab is very difficult, you really have to know what you are looking at under the microscope and you have to get very familiar with the different staining techniques.

Good Luck!

I agree with you, the lab is difficult. We have weekly lab quizzes that add up to one test grade and they are hard. The last few have nothing but dealt with biochemical reactions. We do tons of biochemical tests, also for our unknown :uhoh21:

No, Chemistry it not a prereq for micro here, only BSC1085+1086 which is Anatomy & Physiology 1+2 so i would have to take them in that order anyways. But i will definitely take an introductory chemistry course first because i wanna do really good in micro and know what they are talking about;) thats why i love this forum, you get to talk to actual people who know what they are talking about and thats so awesome !! i LOVE it !!!!

A&P helped somehwat with micro in terms of the chemistry stuff at the beginning, but honestly they are different beasts. I study differently and everything. I am finding Micro to be harder for some reason, but I am making better grades. I am not so good at just rote memorization like in A&P. Anyway, I ended up with an 89 in A&P and I have a 97 right now in micro. Best of luck!
