Microbiology with lab

U.S.A. California

I am submitted an application by endorsement and was told I need a microbiology with lab course for a CA nursing license. I will have to take the class online due to my work schedule. Does anyone know of an affordable online college that offers a microbiology with lab course that California Board of Nursing would approve? I called the CA BON and they said as long as it's a CA school I would be fine but couldn't give me any suggestions. I live in NC and I have searched and searches schools in CA, but I can't find one with an online microbiology course. Any suggestions?

I am in the exact same position as you. I'll let you know if I learn anything because I only just realized this today! Were you able to find an online microbiology course/lab? I have to do the same with Anatomy and Physiology labs (I took the lecture courses but not the labs for those two). Thanks!

No I still haven't found one. Ugh! If I do hear of something I'll let you know. There has to be an online course somewhere.

I don't think you will ever find a science course with a lab online. The point of the lab is to do actual experiments and do work on it. Your best bet is applying to a community college asap to get the science courses done.

Were you able to find any schools that are approved by the CA BRN that offer anatomy and micro online?

No, I just completed it at a community college. The CA BON is so funny about things, and I didn't want to take any chances.

The CA BRN is extremely difficult to deal with. I just got my RN license for the state of OR and we had to move due to my husband job. I started the endorsement process in October and havent heard anything. Did you have to take both anatomy with lab and micro with lab? I also only had to take A&P without a lab portion for my ADN program and no Micro with lab...Also, were you able to get a temp license while you completed your classes?

The problem is that the lab part can't be online--otherwise, how can it be a lab class?

IMO, you're going to have to suck it up and find a local CC that offers microbio. It may be possible to find a hybrid class where lecture is online and you go in 1x a week for lab. Or you may have to take one that requires to be there in person for everything.

As far as the "as long as it's a CA school" thing, I took my microbiology class in TX, though it wasn't online--I went to the campus 2x/week for lecture and lab. For the poster asking about A&P with lab, I had a hybrid class where the lecture was online but I went in for 4 hours each weekend for lab. I didn't have any problem with the CA BRN accepting either course when I endorsed in.

Best of luck.

Were you a Texas resident? I guess I'll have to wait and see what the deficiencies say when I finally get it. Where did you take your hybrid courses? I have been trying to find some and have had no luck in northern california. Thank you for all your help!

Sew below comment, sorry I didnt hit reply.

I was in Texas due to the military, so technically not a resident since it was only going to be for a year. The school considered me one though, so that helped on the tuition. The hybrid course was taken when I lived in Virginia, and I was a resident at that time.

Gotcha! thank you for your reply!
