  1. I am still a nursing student, and i find myself doinghte very same while driving home form clinicals. However, I am blessed to work with nurses who encourage me, and let me know that mistakes are made, and can be corrected if reported, not to beat myself up. I have noticed that all nurses have their own way of doing things, and while general info (like meds, vitals) will remain the same, having heart makes all the difference while caring for your pt..and you sound like you got what it takes, so hang in there! Nurses like you will be one of the finer nurses who inspire future nurses someday!
  2. I have heard simular stories from several students past and present, you are correct there. I am not refuting that there are a few that oowuld be better off in another field, trust me,lol. But that is one reason why I want to become a nurse: to be one of the better ones out there. There have been issues in this program that do indeed disurb me for sure, and although many other programs have their own issues, the ones we face seem very unfair. I just hateto lump all instructors in the same group, who do try to make it a great program. One more yr and we can move on, and perhaps amke the profession proud and show prospective future nurses what a good nurse should be :heartbeat
  3. I am in the day class of 2012..say what you will, despite of how we feel about an instructor persoanlly because of school, there isn't a single instructor there I wouldn't trust my loved ones with..they are the best in what they do, I believe. I look foreward to when I hope I can say that about our fellow students in our class
  4. I love my New Balance 811 walking shoes!! If you have a problem pronating or supinating, the roll bar really helps!! No more turned out ankles/sprains when hustling on the floors!:redpinkhe Not to mention that they are super comfortable, need no breaking in, and help with your legs and back!
  5. I have always bought my books on EBay, but our instructors have put heavy emphisis on the most recent editions, so we have to buy the newest ones, and those can still be pricey even on half.com and EBay. At my CC,if we have financial aid coming through in October, they let us buy our books from the Campus Bookstore on credit, and add later reemburse the Bookstore when the Aid comes through. Without this, I couldn't afford my 11 books this semester! Checking hte library's edtion is alwasy helpful, and using the buddy system helps as well. find a friend you really trust, and split the cost of the books, and then share them.Just my 2 cents :)
  6. :hrns&wlcm:...I agree, I would go for it. Volunteer work always helps as well!! Most applicaiitons require a letter or cover letter explaining why you wnat to be a nurse or get into the program, it could beyour chance to mention the volunteer work, and your circumstanes, including your dedication. Even if ou do not get in the first time around, you can still work on your pre req's, so concentrate on grades and reapply next year.. It all adds up, and can mean the difference between you and another applicant getting in a competitve program...good luck, and never give up!:redpinkhe
  7. in the end, it will all worth it my friends
  8. I have been an Activities Leader in the past, but am currently a CNA...I have never gone on an appointment with a resident as an Activities Leader, but have escorted them to procedures, like xrays, MRI"s and such as a CNA in a LTC setting. However, when I did home visit CNA work, I did bring my clients to their appointments, including dialysis. I live in Ma.
  9. Try NB 811 walking shoes..they have a roll bar suitable for pronation/supination if you have those issues, and provide stabilty and comfort even if you don't. I love mine, and I'm glad I made the investment. My instructors even comment on them!:redpinkhe
  10. we were mailed a lis of books to have, and to reread our pharm books, because we will be tested on the first day of class, and every week on calcualtions each week thereafter...
  11. My CNA cert included CPR /AED ( Profesional Rescuer) certification. It cannot hurt to have it under your belt and may even give you the edge to get the job position you..it can make all the difference between you getting the job over one of the other applicants in this competitve career!
  12. you can do anyhting you put your mind to pedcancersurvivor89, as you already know, anything worth doing, never comes easy..if you can survive what you have gone through, theres nothing you can't do..go for it!! My brain was 41 when I took chem and A&P 1 and Micro all at once...if I can do it, anyone can, lol!
  13. I find that peroxide removes blood stains very nicely without hurting the quality/integrity of the uniform material like some bleaches do. And it doesn't cause colors to fade: you can use it on the darkest scrubs you have, and no "oopsie" marks!!
  14. Just Nursing Fundamentals, and Pilates...need to keep the imact of stress down somehow LOL:lol2:
