No needle nursing?
You can get past this! It is SO better to give than receive. I still don't care for having needles pointed in my direction but I've learned not to watch if I'm on the receiving end.

Nurses Day Gifts
Right. Sound like the mythical food brought in by pt's families as a thank you. Oh wait, that food isn't mythical it's eaten by day shift.

Why is it important to know patient's insurance info?
That is what I was thinking. If I have a pt that looks like they will need assistance of any type after d/c I will make sure they are put on the list for case management.

Upcoming interview, should I mention...
My thought was that she knows about them and I wanted to tell her what changes I've made to help correct the problem. I've been wrong before though! Thank you.

Upcoming interview, should I mention...
absences? The interview is for a different position at my hospital. I've had three absences (one was lengthy r/t pneumonia) in a year and I don't want it to hurt my chances. My instinct is to discuss them with the director of the department during my interview. Any recommendations?

Lakeview Collge of Nursing
I was at the EIU campus. No roommates other than my family as I am a "townie". I don't know if anyone can say that they liked nursing school. It is one of the most difficult things I've willingly done. That being said I felt that Lakeview gave me a good foundation for my nursing career and I am glad that I chose their program. As far as studying tips I would say to find out your strengths and weaknesses early on. A lot of my classmates were in study groups, serious study groups, and it really helped them.

Anyone ever tell you, you would never be able to become a nurse? Proved them wrong?!
Yes, several people. Some of them were family members. I would like to say I succeeded to prove them wrong, but really I did it for me.

bsn...Excited, but now starting to feel depress...
Focus on your schooling now. Show up for each clinical prepared and looking professional and be ready to learn new skills. The job market is different in each area and it will change by the time you graduate and sit for the NCLEX. Enjoy being a student, learn about yourself and your classmates, and remember you can do this.

night shift help!
Ideally I stay up late and plan on getting a nap in the next day. Sometimes that works and sometimes life gets in the way. You will have to see what works for you. It may take a little bit of adjusting though. I hope you love the noc shift as much as I do.

feeling bad practising IV insertion
You know how to get to Carnegie hall? Practice, practice, practice. The same goes for IV starts.

What you love/hate about your assistants
I don't consider them my assistant's but I'm not going to lie to you I love it when they say that I'm their nurse. I'm fortunate to work with a great group of men and women. They are my eyes and ears and 99% of the time they are worth their weight in gold.
