  1. The hospital I work at is getting really strict with patient mobilization. We have patient who are quads and bed bound at baseline. Our assistant nurse manager is wanting us to dangle these patients even if it is for 5 minutes. I a trying to locate EBP to support this. I know ambulation is important. Any help would be great.
  2. What are your feelings on providing hand massages to patients? They said it's to reduce stress. I Call BS. I think it's they want the patient satisfaction scores. If they keep adding task upon task and chart this and chart that, so many things to do as an RN and now hand massages. Really?
  3. Have the MD order with lidocaine.
  4. When night shift is staying over for a double shift because we don't have enough staff.
  5. I was wondering what other facilities do to make sure med pass has limited interruptions? We currently use a bright yellow sash that says do not interrupt. People still interrupt. I am helping my Assistant Nurse Manager with a project to come up with a better solution. Thanks!
  6. I am looking for a chest piece/ bell cover for my littman. I can't find them anywhere except to order from china. Does anyone out there use one? If you do, where can I get one? Thanks!
  7. I use epic at work. I have mentioned for a year that other hospitals I have been too or know people who work there tell me about the pop up which is nice. I do understand but sometimes it gets so crazy, as I am sure we all can agree to, things jut slip my mind. Plus with management complaining about all this overtime we have. I am just so frustrated.
  8. I have a question for everyone out there.. I know pain is the 5th vital sign and it is part of national patient safety goals... But what I was wondering is if any of the facilities that you work at want you to have an above 90% reassessment score..
  9. I am currently a nurse in Sacramento. I graduated may 2010 and have been working since September 2010. I think I am having a little burn out as well as some life changes I think I need to make. My best friend who is like my sister moved to st Louis 4 years ago and I have yet to find someone l can confide in or feel comfortable around, but my family is in Sacramento area. I am single with no children. I am thinking of moving out to st Louis but I know. Othing about how nursing in Missouri differed from California. Are there nurse to patient ratios, if not what tasks do I as a nurse do if I have 6-7 patients. So many questions and no one to answer them.
  10. This is so true! We have a special group of administrators, who aren't nurses or have been out of nursing so long they don't remember what nursing means, that walk around with their iPads to do customer surveys.
  11. You are right. I just was even more excited when they handed me all the benefit package information.
  12. The person who offered me the position was the Head of the New Grad program. They have been nothing but nice and I have been in return. I am just frustrated at the situation with being a new grad and jobs so scarce for us.
  13. I recently went to a job fair and while there I interviewed and was offered a new grad position. I was SO excited when this happened. I called my family and went and bought scrubs and shoes. Then I called the HR department to get the process going and was told my offer was on hold because they "forgot to interview internal candidates". So now I have to go and interview again and what happens? A job I was offered is taken away and here I go again. I want this job. I also need this job. Does anyone have any advice?
  14. I graduated May 18 2010 and passed my NCLEX. I have my license hot off the presses. Now I can't find a job. I know the economy stinks right now and new grad jobs are few and far between. I have applied to a couple of Versant programs and the application period just ended and now it is a wait and wait and wait. Right before I got into nursing school I was laid off. I still am unemployed and I am going crazy sitting at home. In a previous life I was a medical assistant. How l long do I wait before I go back to being a medical assistant and still look for employment as a RN? I am also applying for CNA and LVN positions. I am starting to feel discouraged.
