Well, I just got a call from MDC and have an appointment for another panel interview for the UM Scholars on the 30th.

Are you going to be able to make it to that interview? The choices are for the 29th or 30th.

I got the same call. Our scholarship adviser is going to see if they'll allow me to do a phone interview on one of those days because of my situation. Otherwise I'd have to try to get back. Earliest I could be back here is the 29th late at night, or 30th in the morning (this is if I find the world's greatest plane ticket). I'll keep you updated on what happens!!!

So I found an article on the MDC website about South Florida Workforce and UM Hospital. It isn't all that informative, but its nice to finally something in writing saying that this is real. Enjoy!

Wow, congrats!

Correct me if I'm wrong: this is your 3rd time applying to MDC (last 2 you received that dreaded small white envelope) and not only did you get it on 3rd try but with the Baptist Scholarship! Your perseverance paid off big time. I love stories like these.

It's the reason I say everything happens for a reason. Cause, if the cutoff GPA was not 3.8 you would have got in but Baptist was not offered last fall.

As for the UM Scholars, all appointments have been set for either Dec. 29th or Dec.30th. Till then, school is closed but for those two days school they will reopen and close again till cpl days into the new year. So I guess will have to wait till next year to find out who got into the UM program.

I'm wondering how it will play out for those that got Baptist but are waiting on the UM interviews, cause i'm sure Baptist would like some form of confirmation some time soon, yet how can one make a choice, if the UM decision is so close to the start of semester?

The main difference with the Baptist and UM is that the former is fully paid by the hospital as well as all classes must be attended at their Kendall facility. As for UM, all classes will be held at MDC (as of now 40 reserved seats remain open online for each of the 5 NUR courses) Medical and its paid for by So.Fla. Workforce. However, both guarantee and require 2 year employment upon graduation.

The day that I left for my trip our beloved scholarship advisor informed me that she had spoken to the dean so said that they would allow me to have my interview on January 4th. Im still waiting for the details, but Im so grateful for this opportunity!

OMG! That's great!

What's crazy is how this whole UM thing is going to come down to the wire. In other words, as soon as they interview you, the following day classes start. They will have to call students ASAP to let them know all their classes have changed.

I have a feeling it won't be so crazy in future semesters. More like Baptists, where they have their routine down to a science.

I'm not sure that for the UM Scholars program all the classes are changed. I was told that only the clinical is different...obviously at UM Hospital (old Cedars)

I already have all my books and classes registered...I was even able to get my clinical are Mt. Sinai.

Does anyone know if the bookstore will be open on the 29th & 30th ?

I just did a course search at the MDC website on all 1st semester NUR classes at the Medical Campus and all UM choices say "UNIV. OF MIAMI Generic Full-Time only" with over 30 seats still open in each one. Further, each have a different Reference #, day, time, room# each class meets. On top of that at the Orientation, one of the administrators stated that they would take care off all the class changes for the UM program. At least I remember cause I asked him that question.

I could be totally incorrect, but for example say you and I both are registered for different NUR1025 class, different day/time/room and we both ended up in the UM scholars, how could we go on the sheduled UM NUR1025 course Tuesdays 08:00AM 10:45AM in room 2117 and yet keep our current NUR1025 class which has a different room and time?

In other words, verifying the MDC class search reveals that all UM Scholars have their own time/day/hour/reference# that does not match whatever we have all enrolled for the day after Orientation.

That is if unless, you have already been awarded, but I did not get that from your post.

The college will be open 29th & 30th, so my guess would be that includes the bookstore, for I can't see it closed down while the rest of the school is open.

looks like you are right...that would be terrible...a whole new set of classes

I'm happy with the classes I already scheduled on Seq 1...I have Mondays off, plus clinicals at Mt. Sinai

tomorrow is my interview...praying that they go easy on me :bowingpur
