Discussion

then again, maybe not

Before reading various posts on this site, I was seriously considering a career change from secondary education to nursing. However, after reading the many complaints ranging from grossly inadequate pay to vicious, on-the-job competition and back-stabbing coworkers, I think maybe not. Any comments or advice? Thanks.

I have a friend that came from education...she loves it...she said no more butthead parents telling her what their kids can and can't do. Go for it!

She must not work NICU;)

Or peds . . . had an experience recently with parents of a 3 year old - sigh.:o

As to the humor on this thread - well, I didn't find it offensive so I guess it all depends on where you sit.

Which is exactly what people are saying about nursing and the definition of stress.

You have people who would rather deal with kids and be teachers than be nurses and vice versa.

There are so very many positive threads here . . .. they definitely outweigh any venting that goes on.

Support for members is amazing - just look at the thread for Don when he was out having surgery.

I think shadowing a nurse is a great idea - :)

Good Luck.

:chuckle I hear ya!!

Good for you. Please come back and tell us how things are going when you have been working at the bedside for a while.

OUCH!!! I'd be careful - you'd feel pretty foolish if she had the last laugh, wouldn't you? Just because you're (coming across as) unhappy or regretful of your career decision doesn't mean all of us will end up feeling that way.
