Does anybody know about the city of Maricopa? Is it a nice place to live? I 'm considering working at St Joseph or Good Samatarin nite shift. Is it really far from those 2 hospitals?

Maricopa is a county.
Those hospitals are in Phoenix.

I've never been there but it's a small town south of Phoenix. The one way travel distance to Good Sam is about 35 miles.

A lot of people are now buying houses out in Maricopa (about 20 mins from Chandler, I believe) because it is cheap and nice out there. I suppose if you work 12 hour shifts and can avoid the traffic and don't mind a commute about less than an hour, you will like it. I personally, hate commuting so would never do it. But some people don't mind at all it's just something you'll have to think about.

My stepdaughter lives down there. It's really growing quickly. There is just one main road up to I-10 and rushhour is painful but if your shift avoids that it wouldn't be too bad. Harrah's is just south of town. I don't know about the schools though. Until the growth started about 5 years ago it was a sleepy little farming community with a handful of stores. Now it has two major grocery stores and several restuarants. The new 202 fwy makes it easier to reach shopping and the East valley.

It's also a city south of Chandler (north of Casa Grande), in Pinal County.
I have some family that live out there. But I personally couldn't do it. It's growing like crazy out there ..... it's growing too fast for them to keep up with the traffic problems. I imagine the commute from Maricopa to St. Joes or Good Sam (both those hospitals are very close to each other) is about 45 minutes, and it'd probably be well over an hour once you figure in all the traffic time. Lots of people do it though, but definitely not for me.

we are movin from u.k to casa grande just south of maricopa i am going to be workin at the casa grande medical center thought about living closer to phoenix and commuting but the further north you go it seems to be more expensive and the traffic seems heavier
Good luck, but if you decide you don't like Casa Grande Medical Center, your options are going to be limited. There isn't much else out there.

I have several friends who moved out to Maricopa last year, when housing was cheap there and selling high here. But things have changed. Maricopa is quickly catching up price wise to the rest of the city and when you factor in having to drive 20-30 miles for just about anything, the cost of gas alone more than makes up for the monthly housing payment you'd save. It is growing fast, but they really didn't plan for it to grow so quickly. I'm not too sure about the schools, but I think they're facing the same problem, too many people and not enough planning for growth.
I personally, wouldn't want to live in an area where there's only one or two one lane roads in and out of the area. And at night they aren't lit up so it can be pretty dangerous. JMHO.

Keli! Thanks for your good advice! I think I will look into more in Laveen area instead. I don't like to drive so far.

the traffic and driving in and around pheonix is always horrendous.
lots of road traffic accidents,,,,,part of the reason that theres so many of the pheonix hospitals have level 1 trauma centres.....lots of customers.
Or you could do like me and work night shift .... and avoid all traffic! Works out great for me. I like centrally (in Tempe) and work in Phx .... night shift. Takes me 20 minutes to travel 15 miles, not bad.
