LVN schedule

Do the LPN and RN programs have some of the same pre-requisites? An example of that is that while it is true that both, LPNs and RNs take anatomy and physiology, the LEVEL of intensity between the two may be different. The LPN classes may be taught on more of a vocational level, which, may mean that those credits cannot transfer to the RN program because the college level science courses are usually taught on a higher level.

I would recommend taking the pre-requs with a traditional college and then transfer them in to the LPN and RN program. I plan on doing my LPN at a vocational school, but I refuse to enroll until I finish A&P at a CC since I want it to transfer into an RN program down the road.

I am currently taking my prerequisites for RN but i plan to take the LVN/Lpn route instead. I have a 1 year old daughter and a husband that keep me busy all day. So, I want something faster and less time consuming. I want to change my schedule today for fall. What do you recommend or what have you taken in the past for your first ssemester?

Depending on your school, it is probably a separate application/acceptance process. Each school is a little different, so I can only suggest based on my experience... The courses for an LVN program are generally very specialized to the program and often are restricted registration based on acceptance in the program. At my school, the only class that substitutes for one of the LVN classes is Intro A&P (subs for A&P for Allied Health Professionals).

I would suggest you contact counseling services or the director of your school's nursing program ASAP if you are interested in this switch over.

And... if I misunderstood your post and you've already dealt with this, mea culpa...

Thanks for the advice! I am still not 100% sure if to switch or not. I thought it was easy but i am planning on seeing a counselor for guidance. I keep changing my mind:idea:, after reading about some complications of becoming an RN and divorce and all that. It kind of scares me.

I had no pre-reqs for my LPN schooling. Just pass their entrance exam, which consisted basically of a math section (general math) and English reading/comprehension. Other than that, no formal pre-req classes.

So, I want something faster and less time consuming.

Accelerated programs are faster - but not less time consuming. If anything, the amount of time spent studying, is greater.

The amount of material that needs to be covered is tremendous. Investigate further...

Nursing school, IMO, does not cause divorce. Pre existing issues coupled with the stress of not seeing your loved one as much, *could* cause divorce.

My fiance' and I live together, we have for 6 years, and he knows what my schedule entails. He knows that I will be studying, eating, studying, studying, and more studying.

We love each other, and even if we have only 1 quality time day a week it IS enough.

Of course, not having children make our lives a lot easier. IDK if your husband will be upset that you do not have as much time to care for your child. He may have to take a more active role.

Nursing school WILL keep you busy all day.

I am going the LPN route at a community college. Here is my schedule.

MTWTF 8:am-3:30 PM. Two classes. Nursing 101 and Nur 118(nutrition and diet therapy)

In Sept Th and Fri will be clinical days, we will be picked to attend on either one of those days.

After we get home we are told to plan on studying at LEAST 2-3 hours. Reading material, etc..

Needless to say, there will be a lot of healthy choice skillet meals happening in my house!! I am not 'cooking' dinner like I used to, I will not have the time!
