LVN pay

I was wondering if anyone knows what starting pay for LVN's is in the DFW?

Hello! I'm a newer LVN who lives and works in Fort Worth, Texas. I currently earn $18.50 hourly at a nursing home. Hospitals in Dallas-Fort Worth tend to pay very poorly, in the range of $13 to $16 hourly. I also have a PRN job at a psychiatric hospital at the pay rate of $16 hourly. DFW nursing homes tend to offer the highest hourly wages.

Don't go too far north. The pay seems to drop as you do. In fact, some nurses going to Sherman and Dennison only make $12 and hour. I agree that LTC is the best option if $ is the main factor. Keep in mind the differentials as well, pay rises on late shifts and weekends. My first job was only $15 to start, but with shift-diff and weekends I averaged $17-$18.

As a new grad LVN I have earned from $18.25-20.25/hr in LTC. Also look down at previous posts, there are many on this forum regarding LVN pay rates to give you a better idea.

Does anyone know which areas offer the highest pay in LTC for new graduate LVN's? Or is it basically the same everywhere?

My friend is a new-grad LVN who earns $20 hourly at a LTC in the Mid-Cities. My experience is that the Mid-Cities have facilities that pay fairly well.

What area is considered "mid-cities"? I'll be moving to DFW in about a month, and have been an LPN for 7 months. I'm afraid I'll have a hard time finding a job! :uhoh21:

The Mid-Cities are the suburbs and cities between Dallas and Fort Worth. They include Euless, Bedford, Hurst, North Richland Hills, Grapevine, Irving, Las Colinas, Grand Prairie, Arlington, Colleyville, Keller, Watauga, Haltom City, and Southlake.

I have been an LVN for 8 months and have never had any problems finding work. However, you need to be willing to work in long-term care, rehab, or home health. The hospital opportunities for LVNs are scarce and low-paying.

There are some places that are so hard up for nurses that you can name your price. So I would keep that in mind before settling for a set hourly wage (in LTC). You wont have a hard time finding a job in this area but you will have to stick with LTC or clinic nursing. The hospital wages for LVN's is very low in this area and the opportunities are diminishing as we speak. I know JPS, Plaza, Huguley and Baylor Irving hires LVN's but cant pinpoint a hourly wage for ya. I can tell you this I was making $10 more a hour in LTC than from what I was offered as a senoir LVN at JPS, this was about 5 years ago.
