Lunch?

What healthy foods do you bring for lunch, if you don't want to eat cafeteria food?

salads, soup, sandwiches, just to name a few. check out kraft.com they have a great list of healthy lunch ideas.

I just order some overpriced salad ... yeah I can't cook. I did eat a banana like literally everyday during class.

Oh, I was about to ask the same question :)

Also, I have another question. If you bring drinks from home, what is it, and what kind of container or cup or bottle do you use? I don't want to buy any unhealthy overpriced ice tea or soda from a vending machine.

A bag of raw veggies is one of my favorite things to munch on during class. I also bring fresh fruit, nuts, and/or homemade granola bars. Yogurt and cheese are good, too, as long as you bring an ice pack. Think fiber and protein.

I love my Camelback. I've used it just about every day (except when it's in the dishwaster) for the past 2 years. Before I leave for class, I fill it 3/4 up with ice, add cold water, and a big chunk of lemon. Yum! I also brew my coffee and take it in a to-go mug. I'm on a big-time budget, so I take all my food and drink to save money and plus it keeps me from eating high fat, high sugar foods.

granola bars, I always usually get the Kashi cereal bars (come in blackberry, apple cinnamon & strawberry) - they're kind of nutrigrain bars but taste a lot better and are a lot better for you!

yogurt (dannon light n' fit), I always bring fresh fruit. If I make sandwiches, I stick with whole wheat bread, reduced sodium deli cuts and cheese. I also really like the Rold Gold reduced sodium pretzels (50% less sodium than regular pretzels!). Sometimes I'll bring string cheese to snack on...apple slices with 1-2tbsp peanut butter. Something with protein is one of the best things to eat right before you take a test.

As for drinks, i have reusable water bottles - less waste that way. I throw in whatever I want in them (generally just water lol).

No soda, no coffee no nothing. Just water. Lots and lots of water in a Nalgene container.

As far as food I always take leftovers because I like to cook at home and I know my gf wont eat them so I get free reign at all leftovers. I cook pretty healthy too so its a win win.

Talking about water bottles I have been looking for a specific kind forever. I like the bottles where the top flips up and you can just sip on it (straw in the bottle). The problem is I cannot find a good one like it that is also insulated so it doesn't sweat like crazy. Anyone every find one like this? I would appreciate any help. It's like a treasure hunt...lol.

This is a great thread idea because I would love to pack my lunch every day. Does anyone have good breakfast ideas you can eat on the road? By the time I shower, get ready and get everything together it's time for me to get my butt in the car.

Next semester I will be on a commuter meal plan so I can pick up a lunch provided by the school and take it with me to clinical. I learned this from another student at my school who always brought healthy lunches and she said the school cafeteria packed it for her and just deduct a meal from her plan and it always looked healthy. It contained a juice box or water, sandwich or a sub, salad or cut fresh veggies, fruit, fat free dressing or dip and a healthy snack like trail mix or wheat crackers, etc. The school also puts Weight Watcher points (I am on WW:lol2:) online and nutrition information for each meal.

Clinical are really early in the morning and I hate packing lunches the night before since sometime they get soggy so I'm just going to pick up a premade lunch from school. Does your school offer this option, if so you might want to check it out. Many schools offer commuter plans with options of 25, 50, 100, etc. meals for a certain price that is not that bad and financial aid will cover it. Plus whatever your school endorsed dining dollars to be used around local restaurants like subway, etc, around your town.

I love bringing Lean Cuisine's for lunch -- they are delicious, portioned just right and are around 300 calories each meal. It's a lifesaver. Other ideas are sandwiches, the ones I make are loaded with veggies, a low fat lunch meat or tuna, skip the cheese and I use hot sauce instead of mayo. Condiments have so much calories. A light soup is a great companion to a sandwich. I also bring lots of fresh fruits, I eat around 3 a day. I can't get enough! Light yogurt makes a great breakfast/snack for me. Overall I make sure that I eat REAL food, absolutely no junk food, fast food, sweets, liquid calories and watch the sauces/condiments.

I thrive on Lean Cuisines and the like at work...and string cheese and raw fruit.

My Camelbak has a flip top with the straw in the bottle. I have the plastic one that's bpa free, but they also offer stainless steel if you prefer. I've dropped it I don't know how many times on the concrete and it's never even scratched.

I don't have the insulation sleeve, but they sell one to fit the bottle.
