I am torn between taking the plunge and doing the full time LPN course in able to make more money and get more experience. I am currently working full time as a cna and mom to 4 boys. My reason for the LPN is because it is shorter term and I can make more money while taking pre reqs for RN if I choose. I have had many people tell me I should go right to the RN program but that will take me forever and I cant afford to work part time for that long. . Any input, opinions or suggestions would be great. Thanks!

You are right, you will finish the LPN quicker, you also have the option of doing the LPN to RN later.
I am in a similar situation, I plan to use my 401K to pay my bills and not work (if possible) while doing an LPN program. I can't afford to do the RN, even with working part time, it will break the bank. I plan to do the LPN to RN later.
You have to do what is right for your situation, generally finances and your families needs usually dictate which route to take.

You do what is best for you and your family. Getting the LPN first and working towards the RN is a great option. If your goal truly is to become an RN I advise you to keep plugging away at it after you get the LPN. You don't want to find yourself 20 years from now with regrets that you went the LPN route, got busy with work, bills and life and never finished.
Good luck!

Think of the valuable experience you will get as an LPN! I, too, did the LPN to RN route. May have taken me a while, but it was worth it in the end.

Our local hospital will no longer be hiring LPN's - just CNA's and RN's. Something to think about - maybe check with local facilities and make sure they're going to still be hiring LPN's in the future.

I am in the same boat. I am presently a dog groomer. I have been grooming for 20 years and I want a change. My kids are older so I have more time. The college program is very hard to get into. I have been turned down. My local Questar has a LPN program that fits into my schedule perfectly. I really want to be a RN so I hope this is the right road for me. My gut tells me it is. I am getting older (40) so I can't wait forever for the college. Plus the Questar price is right. I will probably will get help with some of the cost. Everyone at the Questar was so nice. Making such a drastic career change at my age is so.....scary. Colleen

Do wat's best for you and your family.
If you scoop out an LPN-RN bridge program before you even start and determine in your mind that your RN is your ultimate goal, you will be A-okay!
Great!!!

I'm in the same predicament, My school takes all 100 people who got accepted and they all take Nursing 1 and 2 together and then next year the third semester you have to decide whether you want to Go the LPN route or RN route, and i am struggling with the decision. I could just go the LPN route and after Nursing 1 and 2 ill be put into Nursing 3(PN) next summer and graduate next summer and work as an LPN while I go back to get my RN. I want to do that only because i want to work sooner, but if i just stay and go for 2 more semesters i can be an RN and not have to go back...AHHH decisions
Wow, i say do the LPN then focus on the RN.
good luck ...
