hi all i need some help
i have always wanted to be a nurse in L&D. i went to college years ago for nursing but sadly changed my major(AAS in Early Childhood ED) cause of a huge waiting list. i counldnt wait because of fin aid. well now 7 years Hubby& 2 girls later this is still something i want to do. MY problem now is cause of finances and time which is better LPN so i work while Completing my RN or just go for my RN.
Thanks

I definitely know where you're coming from regarding the time and the financial aid. I got my BA in English with a minor in urban education a few years ago. I became certified and taught junior high and high school for about a year and a half. I decided shortly after that my heart just wasn't in it. Soooo...now I'm in the process of completing my LPN...September '06 ...I definitely want to go for my RN and I will, but I maxed my financial aid out while going for my BA and a few graduate credits so I figured I'd go for my LPN, get my foot in the door, gain some experience and get my future employer to pay for it. For me, this was the only feasible way to do it. Ultimately, you and your husband will have to have a discussion regarding your finances, time constraints, child care, etc. and decide what will work best for you. I'm sure you will do well whatever route you decide to take. Best wishes :) .
thanks for your help
GOOD LUCK on completing that LPN program:cool:

i did the lpn to rn bit; gained experience, earned some $$$$. (couldn't qualify for any loans, cuz i had lived w/the folks....) anyhow....i finally got my rn-bsn. there is nothing wrong with it at all; it is your decision. it may work for you.....:) good luck!

If your heart is in working in L&D, you'll eventually need your RN license. That's the reality. I'm a new LVN who plans to earn an RN license because I know it will open up further career opportunities.

there are a lot of roads that lead to the same place
best solution isto go direct to for rn program but that frequently is not the option due to family finances , other constraints either way don't loose sight of the goal
good luck

I am in an LPN program now and will be graduating August '06. I tried to get in an RN program but they only accepted limited amounts of people and I unfortunately wasn't one of them. I definitely plan to get my RN-BSN and maybe more. Looking back at anything now, I'm glad that I did enter an LPN program first. I am so tired of the situation I am in now as far as working and going to school and its great to know that once I get my license I will be able to work doing what I love while going to school.

see, this is the situation i am in, with a bs in finance and 10 years of financial services experience (boooooooring!) and maxed out financial aid....
i've always wanted to be a nurse, like my mother; but my father convinced me business and finance were "more practical" . so it's either the lpn route or the direct entry msn and there's no msn program around here....and besides, it sounds like getting work experience as an lpn while pursing the rn is a tremendous advantage - as well as that "getting the employer to help pay" part - very nice!
