Love-Hate relationship with Teachers

I'm pretty much at my witt's end here. These teachers are so demanding and get puzzled at me if I don't send their students home. I'm fed up with Teachers who think they know better than the Nurse. Over it !! Thanks for letting me vent 😕

It is more of a hate feeling for me this morning. Teacher comes running down freaking out because student had a mild reaction to an ant bite YESTERDAY, mom is a physician and everything has been taken care of (which the student told her). She had already drawn a circle around it with a permanent marker and told him he needed to go to the ER immediately. I told her, why thank you Dr.______________, but I think we have this covered.

Then, a teacher comes running in that a student was in the restroom violently ill and needed me immediately. Went in there, kid with some nausea. Highly skilled clinician that I am - I asked her to come out and walk to the clinic with me. We made it there with no vomiting in the hallway or need for CPR!

Wow. Sounds like a close call! Good save TXstyle. :)

Teacher asked me JUST yesterday to remove gum from a students braces.."hmm, I said, why cant the student remove the (not supposed to have gum in school) gum from her own braces", and she said "well, isn't that something nurses do". I told her "I was too busy cleaning poop off a shoe to do the gum, and maybe her teaching degree can help TEACH a child the problems of chewing gum while wearing braces, I added it is a "teachable moment, don't you agree"...yup I was taken off her Christmas card list that very moment..

Yes we remove gum from braces, clean teachers shoes when a kids barfs on them and scrap dog poo from kid's shoes. I'm confused, why did we have hours of clinical in the hospital learning to care for the sick when this is "what we do"

Yes.

Because when you express loud shock at my lack of "anti fungal cream" I reeeeeeaaaallllly want an in depth description of your recurrent, resistant yeast infections.

Don't forget hemming skirts and cobbling shoes...I COBBLE SHOES!!

i do not cobble shoes. I get this request several times a year and defer the student in need to the custodian. Medical tape just doesn't hold up to a kid running around. Duct tape on the other hand...

I was asked to put extra holes in a belt once. Now what kind of tool does one use to put more holes in a belt??? I would not know because I must have missed the belt repair lecture in nursing school...........

I knew skipping all of those days would catch up to me!!

Duct tape and gorilla glue, most used tools in my office. Duct tape fixes shoes and hems. Gorilla glue, with parent permission to repair eye glasses.

Oh I am in big trouble with a teacher, AGAIN! She demanded I give a med to one of her student and I refused. Yes I have all the proper paper work to give the med but I just happen to have a hold order for this PRN until after student finishes course of another med to treat a more serious problem. The two could possibly cause a fatal interaction. Teacher had the nerve to call me heartless for holding the PRN. My student left school ALIVE with her parents for a follow up doctor appointment a few minutes later.
