Get to work this morning, try to punch in and get an error message "you are unauthorized to clock in!" Thinking I punched in a wrong number I try again.. Same message! Our HR will lock people out of the system if any of their credentials have expired. In Wisconsin LPN licenses expire 4/30/2015. Technically my license wouldn't have expired until midnight tonight, EXCEPT I renewed mine over a week ago! I even emailed the HR director this past Sat to let her know I had renewed mine, to which she replied "wonderful! Thanks for letting me know!" I didn't get to touch base with her until this afternoon and when I told her I was locked out she says "you haven't renewed your license" uhhh, yes I did, over a week ago, which I told! Not only did she lock me out of the system without checking the state licensing website, she did more then a day before my license would've expired! Had she been off for whatever reason I would've been locked out till she got back! Annoying I tell ya!

Sounds like you don't have a very accommodating employer. Wonder what they do when they really get mad at an employee!

I hope your workplace has 'missed punch' paperwork you can complete that will enable you to be paid for reporting to work when you were locked out of the time clock.

I'm a last minute complete required actions kind of person.
The OP reminds me why that's a bad idea.

I'm in WI too, and last year my license renewal wasn't showing up on the website, for what seemed like forever. I just showed my DON the printed proof that I had paid and it was all good.
I'm in a clinic now, and THEY pay for my license renewal =)

I always renew my license and due my CEU's with plenty of time to spare. Every thing gets sent in 90 days before expiration.
As to being locked out of the time clock I wish that happened to some of my co-workers who routinely show up 30 to 40 minutes late!

I was able to write in my start/end times on our missed punch log and verified with my supervisor that my license had in fact been renewed.... Why the HR Director didn't verify my license status before the lock out is beyond me!
BuckyBadgerRN-- I used to work in a facility in Wausau that paid for all the nurses license renewals. When I moved to LaCrosse people look at me like I'm speaking a foreign language when I mention license reimbursement!
