Lesson learned

Women are a tad on the irrational end during menses. *picks head up off the floor*

Oy vey. I realize this is the male nurses forum, but it's not the boys club and women read this forum and post here.

Rule #1 of the boys club: NEVER EVER comment about such things out loud in the precence of females.

What gets to me is that some (most?) men seem to think that there is no male equivalent to PMS. They seem to think that while women's moods, thoughts, and actions are influenced by hormones, men are purely rational and never influenced by their hormones.

Just think of all the foolishness and harm that has occurred throughout history because of men's behavior that has been driven by hormones. Think of how foolish middle-aged men look having a mid-life crisis, buying a sports car, leaving their wives and chidren for some young bimbo, ruining their family's finances and happiness, etc. And here's a word for you ... "comb-over." Need I say more on that subject? Maybe I do need to say more: comb-overs are irrational.

Think of all the men who fly into a hormone driven rage and abuse their wives and children.

Think of the men who are security risks to their countries and their employers because they are vulnerable to being seduced into betrayal by a someone who knows how to take advantage of their hormone-driven sex drive.

Think of the millions of people who have been killed or otherwise harmed by wars that were started and continued by men who couldn't back down or compromise because their hormone-driven "male pride" and competitive spirit pushed them into the war ... or the ill-planned battle ... etc.

Men don't get PMS or have menstrual periods. But their behavior is just as driven by their hormones as is the behavior of women. Sometimes, that behavior is wonderful: other times it is terrible -- for BOTH sexes.

And I definitely agree --- pay attention to Tweety. He is very wise.

LOL. I noticed that my PMS greatly improved when I got divorced!

You know, I've always wondered about PMS and its....role.... in female explanations of their moods. I understand cramping, annoying timing and all that, but irrationality really confuses me. Not so much in that it happens, but that it is allowed to escape into the public unchecked. Do females not think "this is a strange thought, maybe I should mull it over before I voice it audibly?"

I know I'm going to get a lot of flack for this one, and I'm prepared for it, I just don't understand that's all. The number of times I've been given the evil eye, yelled at, stormed off from or just plain gotten mad at for reasons beyond my control I cannot count. What's even stranger is the fact the minutes, hours or a few days later I usually end up getting an apology. Here is my point...why not wait, think it through, not get mad and save the apology?

Alright you ladies in the males forum...have at it, I'm ready.

Maybe the fact that we're more irritable/emotional during this time just proves how tolerant we are the rest of the time.

I changed my mind about saying this. I'll take Tweety's sage advice, instead.

Never, ever ask a woman if it PMS, nurse or not. It probably is not. Many male nurses seem to get UNDUE respect and accolades just because they are men--no other reason. Perhaps, the women you think have PMS are just treating you the way you deserve to be treated and you are not used to it. As more men go into nursing, men will be treated more appropriately and men will actually have to have more on the ball than just being male. I wait for the day.
