Hello,

I am a poor nursing instructor!! I planned to pick up agency during Christmas break, however, over in the Midwest, travel nursing is not picking up. I will have another break in May for 16 weeks- my plan is to go to California and work approx 60 hours a week! Is it possible to BRING HOME AFTER TAXES 30K?

How can I get the most pay? I do need housing, no benefits...

Thanks,

Brandie

it really depends on the assignment and who you go with. you may be able to find an agency that will pay that much but they are most likely not going to pay travel expenses, living, and transportation expenses too.

Yes it is quite possible. You do have to live frugally and be an expert at negotiating your travel contract though. My last contract was $27200 for 16 weeks. I'm sure if I had done 48 hour weeks instead of 36, I could have easily made the 30K.

What area of california did you work? and if depends in the agency, which agency would you recommend?

Definitely possible. As a travel nurse for 8 years... trust me. There are contracts out there that can offer you up to 60 hours/week if you want. All depends on you situation (i.e. family, no family, travel reimbursement, housing needed or can stay with a friend/family). Try googling short term travel contracts. This will bring up some companies you can check out. Not sure if we can name drop companies on this site???

PS... It saddens me you are a poor nursing instructor as that is what I am getting my masters in. ~Sigh~

I worked in the bay area and in Santa Barbara...two areas that have a high COLA allowance. I usually go with smaller companies, they are more flexible with the pay since they don't have such of a high overhead. PM me for more info.

Hi Spriderella,

I am working on traveling to the bay area in the next couple of months.... if you don't mind me asking which hospitals did you like best while you we're out there (my specialty is NICU so I know your experiences may vary some). If you don't feel comfortable listing here I would really appreciate if you could PM me since this traveling is totally new for me. Thanks :bowingpur

Can I get more information from any of you on how to do this? It could save my farm!

Hey Spiderella. New here, tried to send you a message but can't figure it out. Wanting more info re: companies in the Bay area. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!!

Spriderella,

What agency did you use for this assignment?

I used LRS Healthcare. My friend is in Oakland right now with Valley Healthcare and he is racking $8 grand/month on his travel contract. It all just depends on what agency, what the package is, and how your negotiating skills are. Good luck.
