June OBC

Hey Cathy,

There are 3 of us (Runningmom and ArmyNurse2b) who are planning/anticipating on going in June. With that being said, I have my orders but haven't been notified by my unit yet, and the other 2 are waiting for their orders. We will definately keep in contact with you and let you know the progress.

as said...... we three are planning on going in June.... but I am now 8 weeks post commission and still waiting on orders....... (i know wait and wait should be an Army motto :>D). However, I hear that during that wait they make 3 stops, from one place to another..... to another...... all I know is that this coming weekend is another drill weekend and I'd rather be doing that than working at my job cuz it's my weekend on...:>( . and to have to miss drill because of paperwork nonsense (i.e. my file sitting on someone's desk waiting to do the shuffle) is silly and in nursing, we'd get written up, suspended etc..... etc.......especially for dragging butt.

But, yeah....... if I should get my orders soon...... (lol) I'm planning on June too w/ Stacee..... If not the 23 june to 19 jul then I'm holding off till Oct because 100 degree temps don't excite me and makes my sweat bead upon sweat.

Can you not go to drill? My unit encourages you to go even if you have not been to obc yet. I am excited to go to obc....its going to be HOT. We have a 3 day drill in Feb which should be more fun than this months. Let me know when you hear something. I have not received my actual orders for OBC, just signed up for it when I inprocessed at the unit. He told me it should not be a problem getting into that class because it was not full yet. I haven't rec'd my initial set of orders yet....... that tell me which unit I am going to (even though I know which one I am going to since I was given a choice)....... supposedly I can't do anything without the gatekeepers orders (although I did get my i.d. the other day)...............

You are right about the orders.... I got mine prolly first of December>>>commissioned Oct 21. How did you get your id without any orders? I have to drive 2 hrs either way to get ID card, so I have not done it yet.

Congrats!! Remember to show up in uniform to get your ID... if you are in civ clothing you are in a lower waiting category... :)

I commissioned Jan 24th ( :) ) and I was told that it might be the first of April before I get my orders. Like Stacee and Edie said, I am trying for June too. August is out bc my hunni is coming home from Iraq then. If I cant get into the June class, Im gonna set my sights on October...

I was able to get my ID w/out orders as we are in the system..... once you sign you are owned :angryfire.......... hahaha....anyway, I brought my passport and my driver's license....... I didnot wear any acu's etc.......I was lucky the day I went, the AFB I went to took me in right away. It appeared that you could make an appt. ahead of time and go back, so maybe you can call before you go./?

I plan on october, as I hear that texas is nice that time of year haha. I found out about a week or so after comission, (when I went to the ER with a toothache after a crown came off) that I have thyroid cancer, I looked this up and it is the only cancer they will let you have providing you take your meds like you should. will prob have surgery in a couple weeks and radiation a month or so after that, so the april obc is out. My unit knows about it and it isnt an issue will try to schedule surgery around drill schedule. I went to the ER bc it is linked to the VA where I work and it is tiny and showed up on a routine scan it is a big university ER and I guess everybody gets scanned. It is very early and I might not even lose the whole thyroid. My brother who is non medical asked me to define thyroid and I told him they were like hemorrhoids but only on your thigh. He bought it. ---so I guess I have a delay in my obc, but i will drill prior to this. My labs were all good and the tumor wasnt even palpable but they did the scan because I was swollen and they couldnt adequately examine my head and neck, It was a 60ish y/o pa that caught it. Probably didnt hurt that I have federal BCBS which is a really good policy here, I sure am glad I work for the VA, and not some private company that fires you when you get a dx they dont like.
