Jobs are out there...

Published

Right after I accepted a job offer from a great hospital which is almost 80 miles away from my house, 3 other hospitals within 30 miles from me want to interview and offer me a position. These are jobs that I applied LAST YEAR! I already signed my contract with current hospital and my apartment so I have to keep my words. Anyways, my point is jobs are out there! I applied at smaller hospitals, new grad residency, versant residency, rehab, etc. It took me 8 months to finally land a position in my residency. I was persistent though. I network and I apply, everyday!

Well jeez!! Good that you got a job but thats messed up.

Specializes in DDS.

At one point I was feeling like I needed to take anything since I could not find a job as a nurse. I was beginning to feel like I spent $$$$ and wasted time becoming a nurse only to be still working as a direct care worker for almost a year after nursing school (in the human services field). But low and behold the job I was dreaming of since the beginning of school hired me last week, so my fellow nurses please dont give up. There are jobs out there and maybe even the one of your dreams so keep praying and it will happen. Times are hard right now but faith can be your best friend!!!!:lol2::redpinkhe:nurse:

Personally I would have interviewed with the hospitals closer to home, 80 miles is an ugly commute, especially after a long shift. Are you planning on moving closer to your job? Congrats on your new position :).

If you read it, she did, it took them a year to call her back. We can all only go so long without a paycheck.

Congrats to the OP!

I started this residency in February and moved closer to the hospital with my hubby because the new place would be closer to his workplace too. I love it here: Magnet hospital, great pay, great benefit, great residency, great floor, and great coworkers....so I do not plan to cancel my 18 month contract. In fact, I plan to stay at least 3 years to pay back what they have offered me.

The hospitals that called me are smaller. They do not have specific new grad training. They do not have good reputation. I applied because I was so desperate....So, to make story short. I am happy where I am. My point is I would not give up. I worked rehab for 7 months while job searching. I tell myself everyday that I deserve better and I have to make the world believes it!

Best Wishes :-)

I read "Right after I accepted a job offer from a great hospital which is almost 80 miles away from my house, 3 other hospitals within 30 miles from me want to interview and offer me a position." to mean soon after she was offered the position, not a year afterwards. She said she applied for the jobs last year, not that the subsequent positions were offered a year after the first one.

Congrats to the OP!!

Thanks for the message! I'm a new grad looking for a job since last Nov

I guess i have 7 more months to go !

It is really hard now. I passed the NCLEX on Feb 22nd and I have applied everywhere, but nobody calls. Hospitals do not want new grads.

I dont know what to do. It is getting frustrated.

I had a hard time finding work. So many places do not want a new grad; they want people w/ experience. That doesn't make things any easier. Luckily, I heard back from a place and was offered per diem. I'll admit it wasn't what I had in mind setting-wise, but at this point, I'm just happy I got a job. I'm still looking for at least part-time because per diem isn't going to help out with the bills much.

But yeah... the jobs are out there. It just takes a LOT of searching. Sometimes, talking with other nurses and asking about where they work helps out. That's how I found out about my current job.
