I'm sorry you are having trouble. Have you tried the city hospitals?

I have applied to Mt.Sinai, MSK, Lenox Hill. I was informed that the norm is 3-6 months to actually get a job so by those standards I'm doing good. I'm not even a month into my search. I thought this would be faster afterall there is a shortage!!

Those three hospitals are highly sought after as places of employment by many nurses in NYC. They can afford to be choosy because they have no shortage of applicants for their facilities.

There are tons of hospitals in NYC; if you apply to more hospitals you shouldn't have a hard time finding a job. If you want to wait on those three then you might be waiting a mighty long time especially since most BSNs graduate in May. So in about 90 days the competition will only get stiffer as all of those BSNs are searching for spots as GNs.

If you can't get your dream job right away then go get some experience and then reapply later. I heard that those places prefer BSN new grads but that they will hire ADNs with experience.

I know that NYP/ Weill Cornell Medical Center is having an open house for experienced nurses on Feb. 27th, and another one on March 13th for Columbia Presbyterian and Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital. There's more info at http://www.nyp.org/careers

I had the best results with the open houses, face to face. Also, just go to the employment services department and just ask to speak to nursing recruiter, and be prepared to interview on the spot.

Good luck with your search.

I also graduated from a ADN program and passed the boards two weeks ago. The day I got my results I sent out my resume and have been to 4 hospitals for interviews so far (2 were open interviews) and one scheduled next week.

I guess your in Brooklyn, thus the name.lol. You should apply to Maimonides & Lutheran. They hire ADN's for sure among MANY other hospitals in your area.

I applied to NY Presbyterian and literally the next day I got a rejection email saying "Due to NewYork-Presbyterian's high volume of new graduate applications, the preferred candidate will have: Externship or Clinical Rotation experience at NewYork Presbyterian Hospital, Bachelor's Degree, minimum GPA of 3.0, and clinical experience independent of nursing school clinical rotations."

I have the externship experience at another hospital, 3.6 GPA, and a non-nursing BA, so there you have it. Avoid hospitals that prefer BSN's for now. Like Mt.Sinai, MSK, and NYP.

Hope that helps!

Which 4 hospitals did you get such quick responses from? I had my first interview with Maimonides today and have a second this week. I've applied everywhere except for the city hospitals. Worked for the city as an LPN, and don't care to go back!

I had interviews with Lutheran & Brookdale. Went to North Shore LIJ open interview last week and South Nassau' Community's today. Also went for second interview for North Shore today. Maimondes is scheduled next week. I Thank God I heard from people, cause I needed to start working from yesterday!

I spoke to faculty/students in my nursing school and found out where people where getting hired. That really helped. AlsoI faxed all my info (2 letters of recommendation from instructors, transcript, cover letter, resume). And I seriously followed up with recruiters and kept names and dates of when the resume was sent, who I spoke to, etc.

I feel you on city hospitals, can only imagine!

What area are you looking to work in? Lutheran called me today and I missed the call, but did return the call and aswered all ques asked on the voicemail. I will follow up with them in the am. How was that interview? Brookdale received my resume, and the nr said she would get back to me, I live 2 mins from there, but don't really care to work there. Waiting on NSLIJ to get back to me. Mercy Medical in LI, is a possible for the am if the NM of L&D is available. So, I'm getting there slowly. Persistance is key, or what I would call "stalking", lol. Good luck with Maimonides, my first interview went really well, 2nd on Thursday.
