It Could Be Monday!

  • Admin

It's been a long week. (It's only Tuesday.)

How many times have you started your Friday and said, "I can do it, I can do it. I've made it to the weekend!" Nurses are tough. We bounce back with vim and vigor and can tackle ANYTHING we face with courage and ... and ...

Oh, heck, what am I saying? It's only Tuesday!

...said no nurse working weekend option ever.

I know it would never happen but if schools wanted to give their nursing students a realistic clinical experience they'd have them there on weekends and holidays. They'd schedule them a couple of 3-11 shifts and double right back to a 7-3 the next day. Maybe go to clinicals every other day on randomly assigned shifts for a couple of weeks just for kicks, oh and throw a double shift or two in the mix just for fun.

For most nurses a true weekend only happens every couple of weeks, our Monday or yay! It's my Friday! can be any random day. How many of you seriously lose track of what day it is? Heck I am lucky to work in a clinic with block scheduling and no rotating shifts and there's stretches I have to look at my phone just to see what day it is, LOL.

Oddly enough, both the university and community college RN programs in my area schedule students for evening shifts. I may have even seen nursing students on the weekend.

A little more realistic.
