Is it possible to love my job and all that comes along with it, but sometimes hate it, too? I know hate is a strong word and I honestly don't know if that is the word I really want to use in this instance. When I have nights that all of my patients are needy and call lights ring like crazy and it takes forever to get charting done and you have no charge nurse and you're short staffed.....it makes me think I hate my job, and I don't like that feeling =O(.

I think we have all had the love/hate experience with Nursing. Some days are tougher than others. You don't hate your needy patients, you probably just hate that you can not get to them all at once and do your charting at the same time!

Of course! That makes you human. After 43 years I still love being a bedside nurse...most of the time. It's shifts like you describe or when admin makes inane policies that make me wish I could retire to a tropical island somewhere! Remember: there is no heaven on earth....

We all have bad days/nights sometimes. There is a reason it is called work and why we are paid to do it. Not loving your job every minute comes with the territory.

unquestionably, nursing is a love/hate relationship the stress and the demands of our profession makes it difficult to deal with at times and let's not even talk about the bureaucracy of the politics involving this profession. however, then there are the times that you hear a patient, or a family member regard to you as their angel while their are thanking you for your care and the love of the profession fills your heart once again:redbeathe

NUrsing is definately a love hate relationship. Sometimes you hate it as much as you love it. It's the nature of the beast! It's why adult beverages were invented.

I absolutely love nursing and caring for my patients. I hate the Press Gainey, Medicare/Medicaid changes that take needed $$ from the hospitals from ignorant patient surveys. I can be so nice and wonderful and completely dangerous as a nurse that I can kill you, but nice with blankets and snacks will win you over, while saving your loved one goes unnoticed. That is my beef.
