Hi there! I'm also applying for Spring 2012. I took the NLN and got a 149 composite. I've finished all my prereqs and have a 3.8 GPA. I'm totally new to nursing myself--never been a CNA or LPN. I'm currently a medical transcriptionist (for 16 years!) and definitely ready for a career change, so here's hoping--good luck to us all!

Well, I talked to Ms. ******* and she said the most points you can get on the NLN is 200 so they are using our composite score added to our other points, so I have 254. CLEP-ing the Human Growth and Develoment course in a few weeks so I guess that adds the equivalent of a "C" as far as points are concerned. Wish I would have taken it to potentially get many more points for it, but such is life...

I added my percentile to the other points. If I calculate my total with the composite score, like you said, I have 247.

I am still a little confused with the new scoring of the NLN? Can someone please explain what the composite score it, is that the score given as the overall score?

Is this a change in the point system? I got in Jan this year and the highest total possible points I think was 215??? Somewhere in that range.

Thanks Nomiijen! Yes, it's a change--since the format of the NLN scoring report changed, they no longer break it down into AD, etc., on the test results so they are going by the composites.

Hi Sunshine! I know what you mean--it's such a competitive program and there are probably lots of people with really good scores, so it's all just a guessing game at this point. All we can do is try our best and that's it! I also applied to the LPN program so if I'm not accepted into RN, maybe I'll get accepted into LPN--trying to cover all my bases! Good luck to you!

Does anybody have any advice or tips for taking the NLN exam? I plan on taking it next week and felt that I've spent a great deal of time re-reading and taking practice tests. I've attended every tutoring session held by the ASC lab and and feel that I know the iformation well, but I'm starting to get test anxiety!

Best advice i can give you for the NLN is relax! You know more than you think! :) Good luck!

I am pretty sure they calculate the total points by the percentile, not composite. And in that case, yes, total possible is about 220. 219, since percentile max is 99 :)
