Internal transfer

Hello,

I'm looking to transfer to another unit within my organization. However, I signed a sign-on bonus (in which you can pay back when you decide to leave). I think it was offered due to hard to fill in position at a time. Would that be an issue if I decide to transfer to the other unit? Not necessarily concern of paying it back rather the politics of transferring. Also, I'm not sure what the transfer policy is at my organization. I'm a little attentive as it might notify the manager with the application. The reason I would like to transfer is that my long term goal (NP) would make more sense to this other job role. Any suggestions/advice? I know transfer policy can very from organizations. Thanks for your response.

Your first action should be to find out what is you hospital policy in regard to transferring, then go from there. Once you apply for the position, your current manager will be flagged about it, no way around it.

I cannot speak for your manager, but some like to hear from you before they hear from HR that you are interested in another position. Every situation is different, though.

How long have you been on the current unit? That will probably play a role in both the politics and policy of internal transfer...

Transfers depend on each facility. The system I work for you can transfer to a different floor after 6 months and not lose your bonus. You can look up your facility's policy without notifying your manager. Get to know your policy then make a decision. Once you apply to another floor your manager will be notified so you won't be keeping it from them for long if you choose not to talk to them first.
