Instructor already being less than supportive

Hey Southern,

Sorry t' hear about the less than desirable beginning of a relationship to last you an entire semester... Maybe things won't be as bad as they look/feel starting out and maybe she'll be understanding of the situation (bookstore/financial aid/etc.).

With another focus, doesn't the bookstore drive you crazy? It does me. I like reading all my info. b4 class, that way I can use the lecture as an opportunity for clarification and it provides me more time to review for my test vs. having to play "catch-up", you know? How th' hell are you supposed to get ahead when ya can't get your books? :angryfire

I know it! Our bookstore does offer online ordering, but it takes a week. I am more concerned with the students who live over an hour away (we have 6 of them) who don't usually get their books until the first day. Hopefully we can get it straightened out.

It wasn't. I sorely wish it had been. We don't yet know what days will be clinical days either. I can kinda guess based on the hours noted on the schedule, but they even have rm numbers noted next to the times, so who knows.

Wow Southern this sounds discouraging. I wonder if this happends each time or somethings up?

Our instructors (clinical and lab).........have maintained in communication through both email and phone. I am very pleased and eases my fright a bit.

Glad you got the information now we need to find a solution on books.

Yeah, I order online too b/c I live > 1 hr. away and b/c I can't stand the wait...lol

I've had a similiar situatio w/ cashier's office. The line is absolutely horrible the 1st week of reg. & classes, so I paid mine on-line yet when I go to check my acct. it doesn't show it's been applied yet. Have an all day orientation 01/09 & they say if not paid by 01/10 - you're dropped! Now I'm gonna have to go by there & see what's the d@mn problem and that's the whole reason I paid on-line to begin w/ so I wouldn't have to deal with the office, you know? :angryfire

Its the same all around guys. I start my last semester tomorrow and I still don't have the book - I can get it today or tomorrow at Barnes and Nobles. We don't have a bookstore so you get a list and you're on your own to buy them. As to clinicals - we arrange everything ourselves, including getting contracts signed and dates/times arranged. This is the norm in the adult world. I can say this (IMHO), because I have found it to be the same at every level (LPN, ADN, BSN, MSN, etc) and at several different colleges. Then they wonder why no one wants to teach?

Yeah, Trauma, we have to set-up our own clinicals too. They assign us a preceptor but then we have to set-up the dates, etc. I kind of like the whole preceptor thing b/c it gives you a degree of continuity w/ your inst. But it sure can be frustrating when the nurse calls in, changes schedules or gets promoted & can't take students on anymore...
