I do Not have a clue as to what I am getting into!!!! I'm so afraid that I may not make it all the way through nursing school. It's terribly intimidating and ridiculously competitive!! What's a girl to do?? Is it REALLY that bad???

I just started this semester as well and some of the best advice I got was on this forum.
Take things one day at a time - READ, READ and when you think you are done, read some more!! Keep up with those reading assignments, falling behind can be detrimental.
Just remember, you had to work hard to get here and it didn't happen by accident. Have faith in yourself and when that runs low, post on here and we will give you a boost!! :redpinkhe
thank you so much for your words of encouragement!!

I am in my second semester. This is our first semester with clinicals (1st semester was a shortened intro-semester). I'm terrified. I worked as a CNA at a nursing home for a few months and quit. I hated that place and STILL have nightmares! And guess where my clinical group gets to spend our first 2 weeks??? A NURSING HOME! UGH! at least it isn't the same one!
I Agree - keep up with the reading. Once you get behind you'll never catch up. I have yet to figure out when i'm supposed to find time to sleep though.........

I think many of us are terrified. I am a 36 year old woman and should have my wits about me, but I am scared of failure. It is ironic because I give my 18 yr old daughter that is also in college pep talks about how she can do anything she puts her mind to and being confident about it. Then here I am worried that I won't measure up to the NS standards. But just take it day by day and the previous posters are right, read, read! You Will Make It!!:wink2:

I second the "keep up" comments. It's a huge workload and I literally have no free time except for my one "mandatory day off". But it's all so interesting that it's really a pleasure to get immersed. I take it week by week. I do the readings for this week every week, and do my best to do the assignments as they come (not as they are due, hehe :chuckle). If it's not this week or next week, it's completely off my radar!
Don't feel worried. NS is one of the most supportive environments I've ever been in. EVERYONE's in the same boat, and (for me anyway) most of the professors are nurses who are there because they LOVED to nurse and now they LOVE to teach. It's like group therapy every day. I love it and I'm sure you will too :heartbeat

One day off to socialize a week or a SEMESTER?
LOL once a week. I'd go nuts without it.
Oh thank goodness. I think most people are in the same boat though when it comes to nursing school.
I guess I should have mentioned in my pp that sleep becomes an option in NS!!!
I agree with the other posters though, I have found that NS is an extremely supportive environment with the other students and the instructors. I also agree with having one day per week that you sorta "take off". You spend so much time studying, sometimes you need to just "reboot the computer" so to speak.:typing

I am hoping to be accepted to begin NS in Spring '10. I can tell you that I have already had momentary freak outs like you are having, but they are swiftly eradicated because I *know* that I can literally do anything I set my mind to do. Mind over matter. You can do this....the first step is truly believing in yourself.
