I have decided Excelsior....

Published

I have been a Paramedic for 10 years now and in the past year i have decided to go on to become a RN , i have been getting all of my general classes done at my local community college and i even though about taking it there but i have decided not to. to begin they have put me through so many hoops to jump through and it seems they make it harder than it has to be to get on there waiting list yesterday was my breaking point , i just had enough of there hoops, i even tried another community college to find out that they had 20 more hoops to go through. i find it very stressful and allot of wasted time to find out that both places have a 3 year waiting list which i am 32 years old and i am not getting any younger. i really want to get in and get done. i have been researching Excelsior and it all seems pretty decent, i have read through the many of posts among everyone and they alkl mostly had postives which is good. the biggest thing is motivation. i think i am pretty motivated when need be so i think ill be good.

Wonderful decision. I graduated from Regents (now Excelsior) and it is a wonderful program! Staying motivated is the key. This group helped me stay motivated: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/rnstudygroup/

I am an Excelsior graduate and will take the NCLEX April 6, 06. In some ways Excelsior has been very rewarding for me. It also feels really good that I paid out of pocket and was able to stay out of debt. Good luck, stay motivated, and don't use any publishing companies.

I'm in CA and looking for a school to attend. I have a BA but can't do the accelerated BSN program because most if not all scoold require attending full time days. So I'm looking into my other options.

Is Excelsior recognized here? I've heard that some places won't hire with an Excelsior education?

Its online correct? How do clinicals get done?

thanks so much!!!

Hey thanks everyone for your positive words its really nice to hear great things about EC, i am really nervous and overwhelmed by it since i dont know a whole lot about it. It's really nice to hear about your success with it as well. i have been really stressed out lately about school and getting into a program and after hearing some positive info i feel somewhat lessed stressed and happy.

To everyone who is getting ready to test for one part or another i wish you all the best of luck that you all pass , you have put in the hard work and now its time to get the reward of having R.N. behind your name and begin practicing.

The california board of nursing no longer recognizes EC graduates. If you did not enroll in the EC program bt December 03 then you can't become licensed in california. As far as jobs in Ca go, I have had NO problem as an EC graduate. I was an LPN 10 years before taking the program so this may also play in my favor. Good luck in your search!

Hi timls3674!!

I am also a paramedic. I graduated EC in January, passed the boards last month and can officially place the RN behind my name. You received a lot of sound advice so far. I would also suggest calling your SBON and ask about Excelsior and taking the NCLEX before starting your journey.

Best of luck to you!
