Hurst and then Kaplan

Hello friends,

I have a quetion or advise to ask,

I failed my NCLEX on the first try and now are getting back in track of studying on weak areas and what not.

I noticed that i needed some content and also strategy, so i decided to do Hurst first all lectures to refresh and then Kaplan for question strategy to prepare to retake.

Can someone tell me if they have used the same strategy and if they have, has this worked for you ?

I just reviewed the Electrolyte and Fluids and Orthopedics because i am terrible in those, and i felt like i had forgotten so much ferom school already.

Anyway, after the review i felt like i understood so much more.

Thank you

Deimys

this book. its FREE and its golden. use this read it cover to cover, used OLD editions are 1 dollar. purchase it nd read it! it should NOT take ou more than a week to finish this. 5-6 hours hardcore dedicaton a day is all you need. then REINFORCE what your rea dthrough hurst!

take NOTES i think the biggest thing people dont do is take notes. they must take notes on stuff they Get WRONG, forget or DONT KNOW AT ALL! it helps to reinforce it. whether you liek typing like me or writing like others its up to you. but get it done.

Hello everyone again, I just took Question Trainer 2 from Kaplan - found it a bit more challenging i had frgotten somethings apparently, but i was able to come out with a 65.3%, what do you all think? I know its not all about the scores but i didnt care about scores last tme and was fine with getting 50s in all the qtrainers and i failed, so this time i am actually caring for the grade because that obviously reflects how confident and knowledgeable i am of this darn NCLEX, also in the Application part of it, it says i got a 75% which counted for 8/9 Application questions they asked me, not that many but its a good start right?

So what do you all think? I need some encouragement and confidence, I am feeling good knowing already that last time I took Qtrainer2 i got a 52% and now i got a 65%.

Thank you friends.

deimysd.vigil That's a great score! you approved very well! as long your above 60% percentile that's good. I am going to do my Q trainers next week too and will compare my scores as well! keep it up!

Thank you so much too! I'm feeling more confident the more I take these tests

Our Kaplan teacher told us if you are repeating the questions/ taking the QT and test again, aim for a higher score than the mid 60 mark set by Kaplan. Since you are seeing the same questions again, your scores should be higher within the mid 70's to 80's range. If scores are low, go to the test analysis (old and new scores) and compare to see if there are any trends and review any weak areas.

Hi , am a UK nurse and am doing the same! :) just now am doing hurst, and i really like it! I also did nscbn before hurst, which was good as well but i was only scoring in the 50s to 60s But after doing just a quarter of hurst i am now in the early 70s and after i finish hurst i will go on to Kaplan! They want $699 !! From me for there international course! I want to be as prepared as i can be

Well what am stuggling with just now is

Drugs!! I hope this will improve with repeated study

Different terminology

Ergonomics e.g patient positions , i know what position a patient should be in but cant remember all the fancy names at times!

SATA questions! I either miss one or pick one over ( the too good to be true scenario!

Some of the rare conditions! When i see something i am not familiar with i freak out ! Such as Reyes , in the UK only 1 child developed it last year! I guess on the Nclex, we are not going to be asked many questions on conditions that we do know well?

Well anyway , am hoping i will be ready for Nov , any tips from anyone would be appreciated

I have also listened to the hurst review and after that i hve been scoring much higher on Kaplan.

For SATA i say its all about practice. I cant really give you a better advice, believe i do the SAME thing you do, either miss one more or pick one extra. what i would say is, remember those s/s for diseases, and meds.

The first time i took it i did not get as many, but then again, i have heard if you dont that means youre just doing bad so i dont know what to tell you ,

all i am doing is studying differently and focusing more on actually answering the question even if i run out of time. Because you have 6 hours to take the test so time is NOT an issue, at least not for me. I finished in less than 3 hours with 110 questions and did not pass, and had plenty of time left, may be if i would have taken more time i would have focused more and blah blah, so what i say and it is what i have been doing eevry question trainer i have been taking on Kaplan, for every question that i read if i start finding it funky , i write the following on my sheet of paper:

Topic, and what they want - and then go from there, i write before i see the answers because there is a 90% chance that your answers are right and if they are you will find the right answer. i have proven that already on the last 3 question trainers i have taken on kaplan . taking notes from your own brain before reading the answers DOES work specially for SATAs.

Good luck ! Keep me posted, i sure will keep doing the same.

with a total grade of 73%.

I have to say, i am feeling very proud, some may say God doesnt work wonders, but my prayers are working, he has allowed me to stay calm and to recall when im troubled and i pretend to do the same when im taking the test.

What do you all think about this?

I know i scored befollow 60% oh Psych but weird, it was my first time bellow 60 on Psych never been, so i hope i can buff up on those and get a much better grade on qtrainer 4!
