For those of you that have been accepted, and for those that are waiting, etc.....how does your school accept you?
I've heard a few different things. Like....waitlisted, either in or out based on gpa, etc.
I'd just like to see some of the different guidelines that different schools are doing. I haven't even started my pre-reqs yet, but will be planning on applying to about 5 different schools. Some have a waiting list, some don't, and some are based on gpa, etc.
Anyone like to share?
Thanks!

My school of choice uses a point system. There are a total of 21 possible points. You get points for each of the prereqs you have taken, and also points for GPA and residency. Residency in the county is a big one at this school- it is worth 3 points. The GPA points are in a range, so you get 4 points for a GPA from 3.6-4.0, 3 points for a GPA of 3.1-3.5, etc.
Last year the cut off for acceptance was 19 points with a GPA of just under 3.0. If someone from out of the county was applying, they really have almost no shot at getting in.
Forgot to mention that my school does not offer a wait list. If you do not get in, you just reapply the following year.
This year I have all the prereqs done, and I will have 20/21 points. I hope it is enough to get me in! In order to get myself up to 21 full points, I would have to retake 3 classes and get A's in order to change my GPA enough to bump it up to the next level of points.

At my school, there is a certain GPA that you have to get, but it is at 2.0 I think, so not hard to get! My school mainly goes off of the NLN Pre-Entrance Exam scores...whoever does best gets in. You don't have to have all your other classes done first or anything like that. There really is not a waitlist...your either in or your not...and if not, you try again the next semester.
And same as previous poster...if someone outside my county is applying, he/she will more than likely not get in as they look at residents first (meaning someone who lives OR WORKS (which I recently found out) in our County).
Hope that helps and best of luck with your schooling!

GPA is EVERYTHING to be considered for acceptance, after acceptance the most important becomes CPR certification, criminal background check, immunizations and drug test in order to be able to register for the nursing classes . That's pretty much it!

At my school you need to have a 4.0 if you really want to get accepted. It is very competitive here. They have accepted people with slightly lower GPAs but it does not happen often. There is no wait list.
I forgot to mention that you need as close to 4.0 GPA as you can get. It's also verrrrry competitive here

my school combines a number of things, but I believe the top honcho is the NLN score, they also combine GPA, previous experience if any but not mandatory, reference letters, personal statement and any pre-reqs you might have taken. If you pass all of that, they call you for an interview, once you get that interview you're in unless you really screw it up

I know they say it is competitive here, btu I am not sure by how much. Also we are required to have cpr at the place I am applying.

Mine is based on GPA. They do give preference to people that are already in healthcare, and especially if you work in the hospital that is affiliated with them. They also take into consideration your pre reqs and grades, although they do not require pre reqs and you can take a full time schedule with nursing classes and co requisite gen-ed.

The school I am going to this Fall used a point system (based on GPA and the TEAS test) no wait list. Two of the other schools I applied to (both private) used GPA, TEAS test, and personal interview. And the way each school calculated my GPA it was different for each one. It was just a matter of what classes they looked at. Shows you the variety out there in entrance requirements.
