How to pay for school?

You'll just mortgage your whole future. Waiting sucks, but sometimes it's the better choice.

I've already done the program and owe the 33k.

It is what it is. Luckily for me a good portion is being forgiven due to my schools status. I had no issues though. I have 4 kids and needed to get moving to a better future and couldn't wait 4 years.

I wouldn't pay $27K or $33K for an LVN program.. they only pay $19 an hour. The average college student has $35K debt from 4 years of school, not just 1 yr. Some places, the minimum wage is now $15 an hr.. though most places it's around $8. $19 isn't too far above that. With living expenses, it would take years to pay off... when it could be about $8K at some programs or far far less.

Maybe I'd pay that in loans for an RN program giving me a BSN or an MSN, but not LVN. You could do pre-reqs and do 3 year wait or so for a community college RN or just apply to an RN program for that cost.

Just my 2 cents... debt is very hard to pay off! Esp when your debt is nearly as much as you make in a salary (IF you are employed, that is) and have living costs to pay, also. They say you should never get more loans than your starting job out of college.

My former school is being sued for unlawful loan practices. So far 40% has been forgiven but rumor has it the rest will be forgiven soon.

I went to a school which got shut down by the DOE for faking student information, like graduation rates, grades, ect ect ect..

Be careful. That happened in my state and the BoN was forced to revoke licenses retroactively and require those involved to return to school if they wished to continue to practice.

This all happened while I was in school and the BON and DOE made a deal to let us finish school. It wasn't the eduction it was forging of documents.

That'd be a lot of LPNs they'd suspend if that were to happen though. I'm not too terribly worried plus I'm working on my RN.

That alone would raise some red flags in a lot of people's mind about the authenticity and capabilities of the graduates from this Institution. Of course, most employers do not view these graduates in a very good light to begin with and the fact that this school was shut down by the Federal Government will continue put these For Profit Trade Schools under a Microscope.

The BON won't retroactively suspend licenses, since this would put them in a bad light...more like sleeping at the switch while Rome burns.

Yea, I understand what you're saying. Luckily nobody I knew who graduated had issues getting a job. I think the faking grades were the online associates they were offering in other programs. I was questioned about my school closing once in an interview but most places really didn't realize my school was no long around.
