How old is too old?

I am an older nurse seeking employment. One question I ask myself is, can I do a particular job, or would they hire me? I haven't worked in a hospital in 6 years. If I submitted an application for a hospital job would it go straight to the reject pile? I am an RN.Thanks

What have you been doing the last 6 years?

Most likely, but not because of your age but because you have been out of acute care for 6 years. that is killer at any age. However, do not let that stop you because you just never know. Does not hurt to try!

Private duty

It's always worth applying. If you don't apply, you'll never get anything! Depending on the market where you live, it may be challenging, just because many markets are very saturated right now, but don't give up.

Dead is too old. Since you're not likely dead yet, apply. The answer will always be "no" if you do not apply.

Depends on the job market where you are applying. Even though your acute care experience is 6 years out, at least you have acute care experience. That may give you an edge over applicants with none. But I also think your overall years of nursing experience might be a hurdle to overcome if the facility you are applying at pays based on years of experience. You might in that case command a higher wage than they would be willing to pay for a nurse without recent acute care experience. Your actual physical age shouldn't be a factor.
