How many worked while in NS?

Im still taking my pre-reqs, right now I have 4 summer courses and Im working full time 40-45 hours a week, and have a 4.0 but I have zero life, in the fall Im stepping down to part time 15 hours a week since my courseload will be way harder then. I think it varies by person, personally I like being super busy, I feel it motivates me more. My brother is in NS also and only works 10hrs a week and isnt pulling the grades I am - sorry it wasnt really a clear answer.

so..I have a friend who is actually a chiropractor..she has decided she wants to not have to worry about her practice and is in nursing school. No one would buy her practice so she has continued to work ALOT. she still has a 3.1 and she is almost finished. I think she only has 2 semesters left. oh and she is in the accelerated program so its even faster. I saw your schedule..I think, wasn't it till 11? thats great! I don't know how old your kids are but when they go to bed you could study. (thats what I do) but I only work weekends right now. I really don't think I am going to work while in school b/c my job really doesn't help us anyways..all it does is make me tired. ( I wait tables) but after my second semester I want to get a referral from my professors (hopefully they will refer me) and I want to work in a hospital near my house. It would be great b/c I could make some money and get even more experience which will help me with school anyways. So you can always consider that. But you can do it. From what I know, I just know you will and can!!! :)

I'm currently a flight attendant and working on my Pre-Req's for Nursing... While it has been rough. I'm able to live in the the midwest, fly out of New York City (all three airports), sleep in our crew lounges, and work every single weekend. My personal life is at a all time Zero. However, It can be done if you put your mind to it. I pray, hope, and have a dream in mind.

The old saying. You can make it work if you keep trying and try your best. Keep working for that goal in mind.

I'm working full time, and trying to get all my pre-req's done. It's hard because you do feel like you have no life, but if you manage it right you can have at least one day of not having to worry about homework or studying.

I understand what everyone is saying about working and pre-reqs and thats awesome that you are able to do that. I actually couldn't do it and had to only work weekends. But I think what mamacashew was asking is if anyone who is already in their clinical sequence is able to hold down a full time job and still do well and progress in nursing school. I know why she is asking, b/c when you start nursing school they advise you to not work AT ALL during school b/c of how rigorous and intense the program is. I know that it is doable and I am sure there are many nursing students doing it. I am sure its really hard, but anything is doable. You could always give it a try and then see how it goes. You never know you might be someone good a juggling everything. I personally am not, and I have to study more than the average person b/c of A.D.D. but I am used to it and just devote more time to my studies. But you are going to do great... you know 99% of what we worry about don't even happen...

I intended do PA before I settled on doing RN. One of the things my advisor used to tell us was in the interview, they often ask how you plan to support yourself during school. She always told us never say that you plan to work. I don't know if that question would ever come up in an interview for an RN program though. Most programs I've looked at discourage working full time. But if that is what one has to do, then they that is what they have to do.

I am in nursing school and I work full-time. I work weekends and some nights during the week. I always spend all my spare time studying. When I work over night, I study for like 4 hours at work. It is not easy but it is doable. I am actually doing better than most of the people in my class that do not work. I have B's in my fundamentals and medsurg classes. Time management is the key.

You should also plan to say good bye to your social life. I do not have time to talk to any of my friends or hang out with them.

I think when I start nursing school I will work every other weekend..that way I can still make enough to make my car payment..loans & my parents will have to cover everything else! :)

I know a few people who are working while in NS-but they are working part time. Some of the LPNs at my last job were in school to get their RN degree and they worked full time & went to school full time..idk how they did it!
