How long did you wait

So how long did you wait on wait list before you started?

I am leary about those private for profit colleges because in my area 2 have filed BK shut down in the past year. They left the students s*** out of luck.

So i am going the public route. I have been accepted to 2 different programs but am wait listed on both. :down: One program says i am # 156 (~3 semesters) on the list and the other I am #60 they say 2 semesters max. I will try and crash in fall and hope i get in that way altho i do not count on that happening. What can i do in the mean time to help myself. I currently am a pharm tech and i cant afford to give that job up but i only work three 12hr shifts. Do you think trying to get a job in a hospital pharm would be helpful?

Are there any books you recommend i read if i do have to wait or anything else? I already have a BA and i have just finished the extra science classes i needed.

    My school does not have a wait list. You have to reapply every year. They also base your application on a points system. Good luck :)

    I spent no time on a waiting list because I attended one of those private for-profit schools that had a slew of problems, including a history of horrid first-time NCLEX pass rates that landed them on probation from the state.

    Honestly, I would stay on the wait list for the public schools, or look into a BSN program. I am assuming most of these wait-list situations are ADN programs (correct me if I'm wrong). As commuter said, the for profit schools are not all they're cracked up to be. You do NOT get what you pay for, far from it. These programs are like factories, they bring in more students than they can handle, The majority of people applying to these schools cannot afford them, and think very little about how they are going to pay off the loan debt after graduation (your salary as a new grad will not do it).

    While you are waiting, save your $$$, take more classes at the state school/city community college. Take classes that will go towards your BSN.

    I was also placed on the waitlist for Spring 2014, so in the meantime, I decided to get a certification in Phlebotomy and EKG

    Have you thought about trying to get into private school that are not for profit? I started to apply to two schools (both Catholic, excellent reputations & legitimate, not for profit universities), ended up only pursuing admission to one, and got in. One of them even had a special second degree program. They offered me a lot of scholarships which has brought down the tuition to a public school rate. Considering I will only spend two years there (and took all my prereqs at a community college), it is really affordable. I recommend looking into it.

    I waited for one year. It flew by because I was taking classes. I expected to wait one more semester, but I got a seat early. :-) If you are waiting for a ADN program and don't have your BA or all the non-nursing classes you would need for a BSN, you could start taking those maybe. Just an idea.

    It took me 3 semesters, my school is now up to 7 though(lottery not WL). I feel like I got lucky at 1.5yrs.
