Hourly vs Salary

I thought I recognized your name, so I checked back on your posts. What I think is that your thinking is correctly suspicious that you will probably be EXPECTED to spend more of your time UNCOMPENSATED if you go salary as versus hourly (on the clock).

You ARE the ADON and that is considered management at most places. Management USUALLY does NOT punch a time clock. That's concrete eveidence of the hours you're working for which you must be compensated, even if it includes OVERTIME (that nasty bane of administration!). You'll probably get the line that you can be "flexible' with your time when you have to balance it out. Oh yeah.....

Never worked out that way for me! Even though that was emphasized during my interview. It was fine for them when I had to stay over in the morning until another RN was in the facility so I could leave. There was NEVER a way for me to either come in a little late or leave a little early. So...

I would really be clear with them re how much extra time is to be expected so there could be a realistic increased salary adjustment. The reality is that they REALLY do want you to go salary. But the possibility is very real that you will be taken advantage of. And you might just 'P' them 'O" if you refuse.

I went Salary because I had no choice and now work 60 hours a week at the same pay as I was making for 36.

I typically work 7-4:30 or 5. I get paid for 7.5 hrs each day. Salaried. My LPNs and CNAs think the RNs have it made- but I'm just getting by paycheck to paycheck. Just recently we are down a RN supervisor, so admin said they would "open up" the opportunity for the managers to pick up some time as a supervisor and fill in the gaps in the schedule. I thought - finally! Some OT. Not so fast! They are paying 2 dollars less than my regular rate (which is the top super rate) and will put in my check as a bonus, not an hourly wage. I'm not touching that with a ten foot pole. If you can choose- keep your hourly status.

When I Google personal care homes, I find residential places that do not require the presence of any professional nursing or medical staff. This post baffles me, more so that the OP talks about all of the overtime required for an ... ADON? It sounds more like a skilled nursing facility that has a lot of issues that can't be worked out, not a sleepy rest home?

Right...you will never see the light of day if you go on salary. It never works. The reason they want you to go on salary is to save money that means you will work more for free. It doesn't matter what kind of facility it is.

So what...are they going to fire you if you don't?
