I just found out today that I am on the waiting list to start my ADN nursing classes...but get this.... I don't start until winter 2009!!!!!! This is at Grand Rapids CC Please help me, I need to find a program here in G.R. where the waiting list is shorter. Does anyone know of any? I knew there was a waiting list but this is ridiculous! The nursing shortage isn't going to improve with waiting lists like this. PLEAASE!!!

That's crazy. You could get your Bachelor's and be working on your Master's in that time. Sheesh.

WOW! and I thought ours was long when I had to wait about two years.!! Sheesh! No wonder there is a shortage. Have you checked into all programs in your area? Even if you had a long commute it would be worth it/.

I pm'd you...the college I went to is a short commute from GR, but it has an excellent program, shorter waiting lists, and a high pass rate.

Yes, GVSU has no waiting list. Your grades have to be really good and you have to get all your prereqs done, but then you're basically in. They accept 64 students 3 Xs each year.

I am in my last semester at MCC in Flint. The waiting list here is wild as well let me try and shed some light. First of all, there is a mass of students flocking to nursing school however...The requirements are so tough now that I ve literally lost approx 40% of my orginal classmates! You have to score a miniumn of 80% which is a 2.0 and maintain a grade point average of a 2.5 On a average 50 point exam you can miss 10. Now you might think that doesn't sound bad...however hold on to your hat! Nursing tests are formaulated via scenerios and solved via critical thinking skills...now add dosage and calculations to the same test. It can be a struggle...but a very worth while one. Also those students that fail also have an oppurtunity for re-entry. At my school they take 80 students per rotation. It goes fast or slow depending on drop out rate and unfortunately...failures. I understand that the Universitys are a little quicker to accomodate than community colleges right now. However, if your like me money seems to always be an issue. There are things you can do to burn time...get your pre-reques done, take DOSAGES AND CALCULATIONS....build your knowledge base as much as your school will allow you to prior to entering the program. Don't give up! I'll be done in December and I am having the time of my life.

University of Phoenix programs are only available to those that all ready have an Associate degree in nursing, or an LPN. You cannot do the entire 4 year program with them. :wink2:

Northwestern Michigan college in Traverse City offers an ADN with all the classes online, i am almost postitve there is no waiting list. However, you will have to go to traverse city for clinicals 2-3 days a week. If you are in grand rapids, the drive might be worth it. I would do the program in a second if i lived only 90minuites away. check it out.

I would try Grandvalley but keep your name on the list, like you many of the people on the list go elsewhere change their minds or do something else. So in reality you usually get in before the date given. Good luck!
