Hired, but haven't started

Published

I have been hired as a hospitalist for a hospitalist group, but the hospital that I am supposed to start at is extremely slow at interviewing me, reviewing my credentials, and allowing me to start. It is frustrating. I have been an Acute Care NP since September of 2017 and I haven't started yet. Please give me some advice because I am anxious to start.

Wow. When were you hired? Did you take boards right away? When were you licensed? Many times they want someone who is licensed

WHAT??? That makes no sense.

No way... there has to be more to it than this. So are you or are you not yet hired? When did you pass your boards - September 2017? We need a better timeline here.

Three months for credentialing is not that rare, assuming all your paperwork is in order.

The hospitalist group suspected by April 29th that all of the credentialing would be complete and so did I. Something went wrong.

I graduated in May, took my boards in September and became certified. I applied for my NPI, CDS, and DEA numbers and met the credentialing process for the group. I was offered the position once I received my DEA number my start date was initially April 29, but the hospital where I am going to work has me going through a separate process. All of my paperwork is in I interviewed with the hospital's director. Now I am waiting for the medical executive board to go over my credentials.

I would contact them (by formal letter) and ask if the job offer is still valid, if there are any questions or other information needed for your credentialing and let them know how excited you are to begin work, blah blah

They are aware that I want the position because my interview with the medical director was June 25th. The next medical executive board meeting is in August due to summer vacations. They have sent my lab jackets, had me fill out all of my paperwork, given me access to email, and scheduling. I am just waiting while I continue as an ICU nurse.

So frustrating. My first job as a CNM was in the NYC public hospital system, which, as you can imagine, is about as inefficient a bureaucracy as they come. It took me almost 7 months from hire date to first day of work, but I was told all along it would probably be that way. Best of luck!

I once hired a Nurse Practitioner as a state employee, it took 8 months. It was frustrating not only for us but for the Nurse Practitioner. You are fortunate to have an ICU position. I was able to hire the NP as a contractor until the paperwork final got off someone's desk, moved to another desk to sit and so forth. There should be an easier way to "vet" licensed practitioners, I always hire conditionally for the first 6 months anyway so it works out great for us all.

My you have an awful lot of patience.

Thank you all for writing me. I was granted temporary privileges until my paperwork is complete. I may start in August. I'll keep you posted.
