help! how to study for ATI

Published

HELPPP! we are going to take the ATI in a few months and my school has done NOTHING to tell us how to "prepare", what its going to be like...NOTHING....just what scores we need to get to pass, and if we dont pass we have 2 more times to try, then otherwise we're OUT of the program....no being a senior and SO CLOSE to graduating that isn't an option.

please help! any advice on to what to study, what study guides, how to study, what it's like ANYTHING would be so helpful...i've asked some of the seniors from last year and they didn't really help much :confused::confused:

We used ATI in school and we had the ATI books and quizzes to prepare with. Did you not get any resource material from your school?

nope, NOTHING, they are just like you're taking this in a few months, this is the score you need to get....and this school is #1 in the state...you'd think they'd want to give us a little help....i have no idea what books to get....are these the right ones?

Yep, those are the books I used during my program. I think it sucks that they tell you, you are going to take this exam and not even have anything for you to prepare with, not very professional on their part. Just my 2 cents.

It seems weird that they are making you take it as a senior when you have not prepared from the books or taken any other ATI tests. In my program, we have taken ATI tests every semester in every subject leading up to the big one we take as a senior. The books are written in bullet style, they are easy to read and have a lot of information. The DVDs are a person talking really fast about key points (kind of boring if you ask me).

Ask your instructor for practice codes for that test because there are practice tests you can take online to help prepare for the test. Hope that helps.

If they are making you take the test why were you not provided the material?

My school used ATI, 2 exams every term, we were not required to pass them as it gives you a summary after the exam of the areas you are weak in and what book and page number to read to brush up on.:yeah:

I did like the DVDs as when I was stressed and could not fall asleep I would put one in and soon enough I would be asleep, I would just let the DVD play all night and hope my subconcious would absorb something:lol2:

GET THE BOOKS!!! Then once you do, read them. The MedSurg book makes a GREAT paperweight but seriously, it may look a little intimidating but once you get into it you may find it easier to comprehend than your school books. Take the practice quizes like they are going out of style.

Read WHY it was right or WHY it was wrong:confused:. Take each quiz 50-60 times (I'm serious). I scored really high and people thought I was SO smart but I'm not. I just made myself sick of taking those practice quizes; I saw the answers when I was dreaming, showering, and eating. You will need disipline to do this but believe me, it helps.

My classmates wanted me to give them the simple way out and when they realized that there wasnt any "simple way" they continued to fail. Dont be that person!!!

Good luck and sleep later

I think people sell copies of those books dirt cheap on Amazon. In no way did I prepare for the ATI NCLEX predictor though. Just showed up to see what I could do with the knowledge I already had from 4 years of school.

Thank you all so much! I agree with you all...its just crazy that they say take this, dont fail, here are the dates you can take them oh and study....ummm HOW?

i ended up e-mailing the one teacher and she was just like well review your old material....i'm like ohhh ok just go back and review 3 YEARS of material...sure no problem.

So if i get those ATI books and do my NCLEX review books like crazy i should be good?? I have one NCLEX review book...kaplan i think, or which ever name that really popular one is, i've been doing pretty well on those practice tests.

thanks again guys:yeah:!! and if anyone has any other information or tips i'll be happy to hear them!

The ATI books will prepare for the ATI test. The others books have different values for like labs and such. Are you taking RN ATI? If so IM me and I can give you practice codes.

I am having to take the ATI soon. I was wondering if you still had codes to do the practice assessments i would love to have some clue of what i am getting into :) thanks!

Our program used ATI tests but we were also provided with ATI study guides, which you can purchase from ATI if your school does not provide them with your tuition.

If your school does not provide them, you can call ATI and purchase them yourself.

If you study the ATI books, you will do well on the ATI tests....that is the key to passing them.
