Help reconstitution problem

We just started this I need help. Please explain so I can understand this.

Penicillin G 250,000 units, IM, is ordered. Available is Penicillin G vial containing 5,000,000 units in dry form. Reconstitute by adding 3.2 mL to yield 1,000,000 units/mL. How much would you administer per dose?

This is my first semester 250,000 units I don't know what to divide 5,000,000 or 1,000,000. I'm lost.

Have you tried setting up the equation? What formula are you using?

Okay, so what is your desired?

What do you have on hand, and what volume is it in?

You need to administer 250,000 units. In 1 mL, there are 1,000,000 units. That's all you need to know to figure out the answer.

Hi OP:

Lets dissect the question down, because as a first year student, this may pose potential problems:

We know what the prescribed dose is, correct? It's the first number, which is 250,000 units. The second part is informing you what you will get in the event that you reconstitute with 3.2mL, which is a total of 1,000,000 units/mL. If you use the formula

Want

______ * Vehicle (or volume)

Have

You should find the answer. Remember, the question has stated that they've already added the diluent, which makes the second and third sentences distractors. You only need to look at the first sentence and the third sentence. The last sentence tells you what to answer it as.

Good luck. :D

I have another question to ask I'm taking a test soon does anyone know where I can find review problems on finding a tablets per day with tid, bid, qid, q6h. I've been googling but nothing comes up. For example

1. The order is for aspirin 650 mg q 6 hours for pain. It comes as 325 mg tablets. How many tablets would be given per dose? How many tablets would be taken per day?

I know for this you'd do 650mg/325mg*1tab=2 per dose but how do you find per day?

these aren't hw problems I'm just reviewing for the test. I just need your feedback

1 day equals 24 hours, right? So how many 6 hour intervals are in 1 day?

24hr/6hr=?

I gave you a good site.........DosageHelp.com - Helping Nursing Students Learn Dosage Calculations

.If the dose is 2 tabs per dose and the order is every six hours you find the tabs per day....2 tabs/dose if it can be given every six hours how many doses can they receive in 24 hours? 24hrs/6 hrs=4doses x 2tabs=8 tabs/24hours
