okay - so let me expand my question . . Are there any nurses here working in a "from scratch green house" rather than a traditional nursing home that has done a few modifications to make them seem more like a green house?

And if you don't know what it is then I'll just say that it isn't an environmental question :clown:

Although my initial comment was meant in humor. I was doing so out of ignorance... I took the time to Google Greenhouse Nursing and Wikipedia educated me. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Green_House_(nursing_home)

I don't think we have these in San Diego... We have RCFEs but they are not exactly the way Wikipedia describes a Green House. Usually it's a private home that has been adapted to care for an elderly person/s (usually 4-6...private vs semi-private rooms).

Sorry I don't have an answer to your question I just thought it might help others that are not familiar with the term.

Thanks for the link . . . . I'm just looking for support & thought this would be a great place. I am a fairly new nurse and also new to the green house concept. We've lots of negative vibes at work about the model. However, I am hopeful and believe with the right people it can be done.

Loving my new job & wishing my co-workers did too :D

I'm a pre nursing student and not an RN. However I have been in the healthcare industry almost 20 years. I like the concept. The RCFEs I have visited strive to mimick a home like environment and some do better than onters. I think with any new model, you are going to have negative feedback. It's human nature, we have a hard time adjusting to change. However, the people that mame a difference in a project are usually new to it and open minded about it. Don't let anyone drag you down with negativity. You keep doing what you believe in and hope the others have a moment of clarity.

I have no experience as of yet; the VA I work for is doing some major remodeling and they are taking two wings of our CLC and turning them into green houses. Should be within the next year.

I think you're referring to Dr. Bill Thomas' "Eden Alternative" homes maybe? I heard him speak a few months ago and they sound really great; I would love to work in that kind of environment, altho I don't think there are any around here yet ...

I have been working with The Green House Project - conceived us by Dr. Bill Thomas for the past 4 years and have worked in Gerontological Nursing for many years. This model supports nurses to be real champions of person-directed care. The roles of nurses in The Green House model are: Care Role Model, Gerontological Nurse experts, Care Partners, and Mentors and Teachers. It is an evidence-based model. I am glad to give anyone more infor -

To be honest it looks like just another advertising ploy.

The philosophies are not unique, just the catch phrases.
