If you mess up the first time your score still shows on your score report for 5 years i believe....
Study!....If you don't prepare you won't do well, unless you are naturally briliiant
On the other hand if you are dedicated and study hard you can raise your score probably like 200 points
I used Barrons book primarily and princeton reviews a little.....also get the practice test from the gre web site
The test is terrible....you don't have time to do everything....however if you prep you can blow away the 1000 score that most schools want
I used the Baron's book for math review and i use the FREE website:
for vocabulary. I studied very diligently for 2 months. Really lived in the book and online.
Was able to score almost 1300, first try.
I am looking to take my GRE exam in the next few months. I am wondering if anyone has any suggestion as to what study materials to use ect... what books did you like, did you feel the class was worth it ect... Also wondering if one was to not score high on the first attempt are you able to retake it with out the poor score showing up when you apply to schools? For those of you that respond, thanks.
Im gonna be taking the GRE soon. Ive been studying the kaplan verbal, which i like a lot and Peterson's Master the GRE, which has an AWSOME math review with tons of math problems in GRE form. I also have GRE for dummies but i plan on using it as a review once i get through the others. Ive also heard alot of good things about princeton review's books.
Spend atleast 2-3 months for studying to improve your score.
Do other people think you need this much time to prep? I brought my score up from 950 to 1200 in 2 weeks with solid studying. I guess if you're looking for 1300+ you should study longer, especially on vocab. The biggest thing to learn is "how" to take the test, which I don't think takes that long. Remember there's no single ticket that'll get you in--you need to perform above average on everything. And then you need to impress them.

Honestly, it's not that bad a test. A month of good solid studying should be plenty. The math is all high school math. Use a practice test in a review book to decide where to focus your studying, and review some vocab every day.
